Governor Issues Executive Order to Reopen More Texas Businesses
Yesterday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a new executive order for the next phase reopening businesses in Texas, including checklists and instructions for opening safely

Beginning May 8, hair salons, barber shops, nail salons and shops, and swimming may open, subject to certain limitations and social distancing rules.

Beginning May 18, office buildings may open with the greater of five or less individuals or 25% of the total office workforce, and must maintain appropriate social distancing. Gyms, exercise classes, non-essential manufacturing services, and wedding venues may also open on May 18, but must operate at 25% occupancy. Read more
On-Demand Training Comes to GHBA
The GHBA is excited to announce the launch of a new virtual learning platform, which will be available to members next week.

"The GHBA has taken a proactive approach to the current COVID-19 climate and is reshaping its professional development training into virtual opportunities," said Casey Morgan, CEO. "While our role may shift slightly, our focus will remain the same – to provide reliable and timely information to the industry and to be an advocate for the homebuilding community as our economy recovers."

The first two courses to launch will be the ABCs of Framing and the ABCs of Electrical. Upcoming course launches will include the remainder of the 12-course ABCs homebuilder series, leadership and professional development courses, OSHA trainings, sales and marketing courses, and more. Stay tuned!

GHBA Team Highlight: Mel Audain
Born on the beautiful twin Federation Caribbean islands of St. Kitts and Nevis, Melvina “Mel” grew up in Leeds, England. She is married, has 2 children, 4 grandchildren and 2 beautiful great grandchildren. An avid traveler, she has traveled to over 40 countries and all but two (2) continents — something she plans on changing in the near future…well, maybe not Antarctica right now.

In her late teens, Mel was a former beauty queen and carnival queen in England. In additional to her day job, Mel is the executive director of The Caribbean Cultural Coalition, a 501c3 non-profit organization whose goal is to provide goods and services to the most vulnerable members of the Caribbean community both here and back home in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Mel is passionate about planning events and taking things to the next level and making her members her top priority.

2020 Scholarship Deadline Extended
GHBA's Scholarship Program, presented annually by the Associate Council, provides assistance to members' children in pursuing a college degree. These scholarships are made possible through the donations of generous association members.

Can you help? Donations of any size are encouraged and appreciated. Every penny goes directly to student scholarships. It's also tax deductible!
