Help Us Celebrate!

HELP US CELEBRATE THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY!
This year marks fifty years since ELCA predecessors began ordaining women, then women of color forty years ago, and finally, the ELCA began ordaining LGBTQIA+ people both out and in partnered relationships ten years ago!
We have begun to gather the names, photos, years of service, and stories of the women who have served in ordained ministry in the East Central Synod of Wisconsin in order to make synod’s records complete and to help tell the story at events and on video. We need names, head shots (head and shoulders in the photo), contact information, places and dates served, and favorite stories (of calling, of ministry, of moments to be shared.) If you can help in these ways, please respond and share using one of these two links:

Facebook group ECSW-Celebrating Ordained Women:
There will be a special display room at Synod Assembly for all that we gather, plus other interactives to enjoy. We could use a couple of people to help design that space. Please email Karen Jewell-vanBuskirk always.hope54@gmail.com if you are interested in helping!
PLEASE NOTE:
We plan to take a group photo at 5:45 pm on Friday, May 15th at the Assembly.

Thank you so much and please plan to come and celebrate!

Informational Stewardship for All Seasons Webinar Monday March 2nd
“I’ve grown to see how generous our congregation can be and how hungry they are to see the church grow with our goals. I don’t know how normal this is, but many members of the congregation have approached me to say how much they liked our Generosity campaign! Who knew stewardship could be so fun?! J

Top Ten Things You Can Do In Your Congregation to Fight Hunger Continued
5. Collect!  Collect on a regular basis (such as the first Sunday of each month) food, money or other items for your local food pantry.

  6.   Publicize!  Make a hunger display somewhere in your church building showing hunger posters and information. Put hunger inserts in your bulletins. Put church hunger events in the local newspaper.

  7.   Speak!  Speak about hunger issues in your church. Speak about hunger issues with your family and friends. Speak to your pastor about emphasizing hunger issues in sermons and Bible studies.

  8.   Write!  Write your representatives and senators on how you feel about hunger issues. ELCA Advocacy and "Bread for the World” can help you with this. Write letters to the editor for your local newspaper about hunger issues. Write hunger articles for your church newsletter and bulletin.   https://www.elca.org/Advocacy    www.bread.org

  9.   Work!  Encourage groups from your church to do volunteer work at hunger related sites (local food pantry, etc.). Hands-on work projects can go a long way to build people’s support for hunger causes.

10.   Trust!  Trust that God will use the few loaves and fish that we provide to help feed the hungry in the world. Sometimes working for hunger causes can get discouraging. But we labor in the name of  Jesus. And so we trust that God use our work to advance his kingdom

All women are invited to attend. You do not need to be an active member of Women of the ELCA.

Our offering from this event will go specifically to programs supporting women and girls. We will conclude the morning with a light luncheon at noon.

WELCA Partnership with AMMPARO
(Sponsored by ECSW WELCA)

This year we'd like to share projects and programs that the women of the ELCA are currently focused on to inform women in our congregations and encourage them to participate in any way they may want to. Thank you for sharing as fits your congregation.

Women of the ELCA are supporting AMMPARO = Accompanying Migrant Minors with Protection, Advocacy, Representation and Opportunities .

In this holistic, whole church response that connects international and U.S. outcomes, the ELCA has developed a strategy based on the following commitments:

1. Uphold and guarantee basic human rights and safety of migrant children and their families.
 2. Address the root causes of migrant children and their families.
 3. Work toward just and humane policies affecting migrants in and outside the U.S.
 4. Engage as a church body with all of its companions, affiliates and partners to respond to the migration situation and its causes and to advocate for migrant children and their families.

AMMPARO is a group that is working toward these goals in the ELCA. Be aware of what you can do to help.    https://www.elca.org/AMMPARO

Lutheran Episcopal Volunteer Network (LEVN)
LEVN, the Lutheran Episcopal Volunteer Network, is looking for young adults (age 21-30) for an 11-month program of non-profit volunteer service and learning about social justice. From the end of August 2020 to the end of July 2021, our corps members will be provided housing, utilities, health coverage, spiritual direction, and a $535/month living stipend. We also offer a $1000 re-entry grant at the completion of the program. The placement sites for the upcoming program year include faith-based non-profits, secular non-profits, congregations, outdoor ministry, and our campus ministry at UC Davis. These service sites address issues of homelessness, food insecurity, unemployment, children and youth ministries, and other important social justice issues facing our communities.

We gather each week for evening prayer, dinner, and formation. The corps members live in intentional community in an apartment attached to our campus ministry center in Davis, CA. We're an ecumenical program in the Episcopal Service Corps network; applicants needn't be either Lutheran or Episcopal to apply—interest in Christian spirituality is the only expectation. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until July 31, 2020.
