FEATURED EVENT: Bond-Funded Fiber Optic Network Project Begins
One of the exciting projects made possible by the passage of the 2017 Bond is the installation of a fiber optic network that will enable the District to have internet self-sufficiency; fast, reliable access to digital curriculum and resources; and supporting infrastructure for security and telecommunications systems. The work is being done in partnership with the City of Hillsboro's Fiber to the Premise project that will serve residents and businesses within city limits. This collaboration streamlines the planning and implementation process for both organizations and represents strong financial stewardship of taxpayer dollars. The partnership officially commenced with directional boring and installation of conduit for the fiber optic cable at McKinney Elementary School on Thursday, March 14. The first schools are expected to go live in July 2019, and the remaining buildings will be completed by April 2020. The schedule and project updates will be posted to our bond website .

Co-Chairs Release 2019-21 Budget Proposal

On Thursday, March 7, the Co-Chairs of the Joint Ways and Means Committee released their  2019-21 budget proposal, based on the March State Revenue Forecast, which calls for an $8,871.5 billion allocation to K-12 education. This is $590.5 million short of the $9.462 billion state-level allocation HSD would need to maintain current services over the biennium. At this funding level, HSD would experience a shortfall of $20.86 million over the next two years. Click here to read more.

Nike AVID Grant
HSD is extremely grateful to the Nike School Innovation Fund (NSIF) for its ongoing commitment to support AVID programming in our district. AVID is a set of instructional strategies and supports that are proven to enhance achievement and encourage higher educational attainment for students who are in the academic middle. The District has been awarded $33,000 - or $8,250 per high school - for AVID programming in the 2019-20 school year, bringing NSIF's five-year investment in HSD to $538,698. Our four high schools are proud to be among the 100 public schools in Oregon to receive NSIF funding for 2019-20!
