Coach/Athlete Spotlight

We have added a new feature to our Newsletter! Each month we will spotlight a different coach and athlete so we can share with our community what God is doing through FCA and how it’s impacting our local coaches and athletes.
Brian Wiltz - Coach

Where do you coach?
Lexington High School and Middle School

How long have you coached?
23 years of coaching

What is your primary sport to coach? Football for Ridgeview/Lexington Coop and Jr. High Basketball for Lexington

How long have you been involved in FCA? 18 years as an FCA Huddle Coach

Why/How did you get involved in FCA? Josh Roop and I started the Huddle at Kingsley Junior High under the guidance of FCA staff Josh Carter (now at Gibson City)

How has FCA helped you to know and grow in Christ? FCA has helped me grow in my faith tremendously. By being responsible to ensure the truth is proclaimed at a huddle meeting I would need to study the scripture and help the students prepare lessons. I also participated in coaches ministry for 15 years learning how to coach with a God Centered Mindset. The 3D coaches academy was life changing for me.

What legacy do you hope to leave as a coach? I pray that my legacy will be that of a Christian Father who help raise his own children and had a positive influence on the students and athletes that he worked with.

What is your favorite Bible verse? Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust the Lord with all your heart, Do not rely on your own understanding, follow Him in all your ways and He will make a straight path for you.
Carter Coffman - Athlete

Where do you attend school?
Lexington High School

What grade are you in?
11th grade

What is your primary sport?
Football

How long have you been involved in FCA? 4 years, since 8th grade

Why/How did you get involved in FCA? The youth pastor at my church asked me if I would like to help start an FCA club at our school. After that, I helped out at the FCA summer camps at Eastview.

How has FCA helped you to know and grow in Christ? I've met many fellow Christian athletes and coaches through FCA, and they've encouraged me and helped me grow in my relationship with Christ.

What legacy do you hope to leave as an athlete? I don't want anyone to primarily remember me for any athletic accomplishments. Instead, I want people to remember how I worked hard, treated my opponents with respect, encouraged my teammates, and gave my best at everything for the glory of God alone.

What is your favorite Bible verse? Romans 5:8 - "But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

The Champion's Mindset

Jimmy Page, FCA’s Divisional Vice President, West U.S.A., shares with us how, to become a champion, you have to see it to believe it. But what exactly does that mean? Those with the mind of a champion train their brains to reject doubt, discouragement and defeat. They keep their eyes on the prize; they keep the goal in mind. They reject negative thinking, and they refuse to make excuses. In his latest article, Jimmy explores the kind of faith and vision it takes to have a champion’s mindset.

“In the midst of this pandemic, we’ve had to shift and remind coaches and athletes that their identity is not their sport. Our identity is in Christ. We are called to be a ‘100%’ coach or athlete, based off of our theme this year, found in Mark 12:30, ‘Love the Lord God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength.’”

– Dan Britton, FCA Chief Field Officer
