GRE STUDENTS SPREAD KINDNESS
Gold Rush students have been spreading kindness throughout our school. After reading the book Have You Filled A Bucket Today? first graders created posters that show the different ways they are kind. They identified complimenting others, playing with new friends and sharing, as ways they "fill others' buckets," or make others feel good. Third graders created encouraging messages that are displayed outside of their classrooms. They are also recognizing what they love most about themselves. These celebrations of kindness and happiness contribute greatly to our school's positive culture and climate.
COMMUNICATION REGARDING POSITIVE CASES
I want to thank you for the kindness and flexibility you demonstrated this week as additional students/classes transitioned to remote learning due to COVID. I know that finding childcare with short notice and supporting your child at home is extremely challenging. Your continued partnership is recognized and greatly appreciated.

As you are aware, all families will receive information regarding positive cases at Gold Rush. If your child is in close contact with someone who tested positive, your family will receive an additional District email stating your child needs to quarantine for 14 days.

Students who have not had direct contact with a positive case, but whose learning is impacted will also receive a second email from the District stating your child will learn remotely. This can be due to a lack of available substitutes. Students who are learning remotely due to a substitute shortage do not need to limit activity within the community. The District's impact letters will specify if your child is quarantined or if he/she is learning remotely. Please see samples of both District letters below.

As mentioned previously, the District impact letters do not clearly specify which Gold Rush student is impacted. Please know that the school will send you a follow up email identifying your child's grade level. Siblings are able to continue to attend school if they remain symptom free.

Please see prior communication and additional resources below. We all want our students at school and we appreciate your continued commitment to keep our community healthy.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING FOR STUDENTS & PARENTS
Students are learning a variety of social/emotional strategies to recognize their feelings and calm their body and mind. Our school counselor, Mrs. Fitch, has been teaching students the different parts and functions of the brain. Students are learning breathing techniques and how to use their five senses to recognize when they have big emotions and channel more rational parts of the brain, such as the hippocampus.

In physical education students are learning how to visualize calming images in nature as a way of relaxing their bodies. Students are devoting the final minutes of their class period practicing this technique. After a class period full of movement, this final activity helps center the students.

We know that parenting during the pandemic is also stressful on adults. Please see a virtual parent support group being offered this month. Click here for the flyer.
SAFETY PRACTICES

The District continues to ask students to wear masks with the exception of lunch and recess. We will also continue to require parents and visitors to wear masks at all times when they are on school grounds (sidewalks and the parking lot included).
