Southern Maryland Spring College Annual & Career Fair
On January 24, 2020, the VSUAA-Prince George's County Chapter represented VSU at the Southern Maryland 8th Annual College and Career Fair sponsored by St. Mary's County Public Schools in partnership with the NAACP. Over 450 students were in attendance.
Having the chapter at the c
areer fair gave students the opportunity to learn about what VSU has to offer academically and a great way to familiarize the students with different organizations at the school. It was great to see alumni who love their Alma Mater and are enthusiastic about recruiting students from St. Mary's County to VSU.
Thomas Brown, a member of the chapter who helped with the fair, had this to say:
"The event in Southern Maryland was a great event and I think [we had].... many pictures taken with the Maryland students and the Board of Education Officials! Many students had applied to VSU and were
waiting acceptance letters; some parents and teachers shared they had and remembered great teachers from VSU; the Board of Education Members were impressed that we were encouraging the students to look to the future and plan according."

VSU Wins 2020 Division II Award of Excellence
|
Virginia State student-athletes know that a fresh pair of shoes and socks can go a long way in helping a child put his or her best foot forward.
Led by the Virginia State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Trojan athletics community partnered last spring with Samaritan's Feet International to provide 300 new pairs of athletic shoes and socks to students at Cool Spring Elementary in Petersburg, Virginia. Student-athletes, athletics administrators and representatives from the campus community spent the morning of April 30 at the local elementary school washing children's feet and adorning them with shiny new sneakers. Virginia State President Makola Abdullah and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams also participated in the event.
Because of the efforts, Virginia State was presented Saturday with the 2020 Division II Award of Excellence. Each year, the national Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee selects the award winners based on events over the past year that exemplify the Division II philosophy, community engagement and student-athlete leadership.
