Friske Annual Fruit Tree Sale
April 1st - May 4th

The Friske Annual Fruit Tree Sale is taking place April 1st - May 4th, 2019. They will feature apple, peach, sweet cherry & pear- $25 each. Free tree guards for 5+ trees. The trees are 4-6 ft. tall, bare roots and dwarf root stock.

Free Lecture entitled "A Mosaic of Faiths: Exploring Northern India"

North Central Michigan College will offer a free international lecture on India in the Library Conference Center on the Petoskey campus. With its deep history and diverse religious and cultural traditions, India offers a fascinating window into the dynamics of belief and worship- particularly via its many temples and holy sites. Dr. Gary L Hauck who is Dean Emeritus at Montcalm Community College offers a reflection on this rich religious tapestry of India, and how it serves as a fine example of cultural pluralism and diversity.

Lenten Fish Fry- St. Mary Family Center

St. Mary will have two more Lenten Fish Fries on April 5th and April 12th. The menu includes: fried or baked fish provided by John Cross Fisheries, grilled cheese, french fries or baked potato, coleslaw, roll and homemade desserts. The cost is $12 for adults, $7 for children 10 and under and $40 for a family.

Reminder: All of the Charlevoix County Senior Centers are Closed on Friday, April 19, 2019 in observance of Good Friday. The Charlevoix County COA office is open until noon.
 
This month we have some new and fun things at our various Senior Centers:

Camp Daggett Offers Wilderness Camps
Camp Daggett offers campers, ages 13-15, an exciting opportunity to challenge themselves and learn new skills in a wilderness setting. Our four wilderness adventure trips offer training in self-confidence, communication and teamwork, in some of Michigan’s most beautiful areas. The four trips vary in location and difficulty and each will focus on “Leave No Trace” back-country ethics, basic survival skills and the general history and ecology of the area.

The Camps are: Discovery 2019- Backpacking Pigeon River State Forest, Pathfinder 2019- Backpacking on North Manitou Island, Canoer 2019- Platte, Batsie & Crystal Rivers, and Explorer 2019- Backpacking Pictured Rocks. For more information and dates click HERE !

McLaren Northern Michigan Names New CEO
McLaren Northern Michigan officials announced today the appointment of Todd Burch to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Burch brings more than 16 years of executive leadership experience within hospitals, health systems, and managed care organizations.

Most recently, Burch served as the Southern Region CEO for Aspirus, Inc., an integrated health system serving northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Prior to Aspirus, Burch held senior leadership positions in both the public and private sectors of health care, including Chief Operating Officer for Marshall town Medical and Surgical Center in central Iowa, president and founder of the health care consulting firm Red Rock Health Ventures, and CEO of Greeley County Health Services in Tribune, Kansas.
 
Burch holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and a Master of Science in Health Care Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington. He and his wife of 20 years, Niki, along with their children Madeleine, Sydney, Gabriel, and Josie are looking forward to relocating to the Petoskey area. Burch will officially begin his new position on Monday, April 29.

2019 Dorothy Gerber Strings Program Announced
When you think of summer music camp, do you imagine students jamming fiddle tunes at a local street festival, playing Eine Kleine Nachtmusik on an Island or performing string quartets in the local library? That was exactly what took place in 2018 and the Dorothy Gerber Strings Program is bringing back their highly successful summer options for 2019.
There are opportunities for students across a wide range of age and experience. Summer residents and tourist are also welcome to participate.

Free Student Art Class during Spring Break "Stay-cation"!
Young Artist Atelier- Students will work with professional artist to be mentored in fine art techniques. Open to students from Middle to High School age using mixed media. Please call to sign up limit of 10 students. 231-547-3554.


Builder's Club Food Drive
The St. Mary Builder's Club had a food drive last week and made it a competition between all of the grades. Together they collected 688 food items! 4th and 5th grade brought in the most and won a pizza party! They will deliver to the Charlevoix Food Pantry on Monday, March 18th.


2019 Charlevoix Chamber Scholarship
We are now accepting applications for our 2019 Chamber Scholarship- awarded to an area high school senior deserving of assistance in covering tuition expenses associated with higher education! Interested students can find more information on our website. We must receive application no later than Monday, April 15, 5pm.

Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who is accepted to and planning to attend an accredited two or four year vocational school, community college or university. The applicant must have a 3.0 or higher GPA, and must either be an employee of a Chamber member business or the child of an employee of a Chamber member business.
