Back to School Start Days/Dates
We will be staggering the start of the 2021-2022 school year as you see below. Visit our Back-to-School Hub on our website for the most updated information!
Important Back-to-School Dates
Many back-to-school events begin next week! Take a look below to make sure you don't miss any back-to-school activities!
Summer Feeding Program a Great Success!
The Kings Food Service Department served over 40,000 meals this summer during their Summer Feeding Program, both curbside and at the Joshua's Place Summer Camp at the South Lebanon Community Center.

Both programs were provided through the months of June and July. The Kings Food Service Team, along with many volunteers, including students from Kings High School were the key to the success of these programs. Rain or shine, the Curbside Meal Team met the challenges in packing and distributing meals for our community each week at Columbia Intermediate School. They also provided a healthy lunch twice a week for the children attending Summer Camp at Joshua's Place.

Kings Food Service Director, Jennifer Arlinghaus said, "Both of our programs were a TEAM effort. We are grateful to have had the opportunity." Thank you, Food Service Team! #KingsStrong
Sweets With the Supe Raffle Winners
Thank you to those in the community who attended this week's Sweets With the Supe! It was a great evening for Mr. Sears to meet parents, students, and community members.

Congratulations to the following students whose names were drawn in the raffle: CIS 5th grader, Claire Dong and KJH 7th grader Jayla Likens will be awarded a pizza party for their whole class, and KME 3rd graders Vishwajeeth Madhavan and Gabe Levy will receive an extra recess for their entire class!  We will work with their teachers to schedule a date.

A special thanks to Shine Orthodontics for providing the ice cream and to Kings Bus Driver, Mr. Dan for bringing the entertainment.

We hope to host another Sweets With the Supe later this month. We will keep you posted.
Parent/Student Reunification Protocol
Please read this important information regarding District emergency plans.

The Kings Local School District takes the safety and security of our staff and students very seriously. As a part of an Ohio Revised Code requirement, the District is required to inform students and parents/guardians before the first day of school each year of our emergency parental notification protocols.

In the event of an emergency where an evacuation of the school building is necessary, we have identified off-site locations (reunification sites) to transport students to safety. In emergency situations, we will disseminate information through our All-Call system, as well as use email, text messages, website, and district social media. Additionally, we will continue to provide updates through the above avenues as needed.

The Kings Local School District believes it is as important for parents to know the resources the district will use in the event of an emergency. It should be noted that an evacuation from any given campus may cause your children to be picked up at a secondary location. If this circumstance occurs, we will utilize a parent reunification form to reunite you with your child.

We will ask parents to be sure that their emergency contact information is up to date in our files in order to be contacted in case of an emergency. Feel free to check your account in School Messenger for accuracy, as well.

A Reunification Information Document will be used in the event of an emergency where a reunification process is required. This document will assist us in releasing your child to you at the reunification site. Please take some time to fill out the form and put it in a safe place in your vehicle to be used as necessary.

Mental Health Resources for Summer
Kings Local School District's Social Emotional Health Coordinator, Kim Sellers discusses Back-to- School Anxiety.

Hello Knight Families! We cannot wait to welcome back your students this year. Back to school anxiety is common, but we certainly have even more students that may struggle from the effects of the COVID pandemic. Some of our students have not been in a school building since March 2020. As adults, it is important that we set the tone for our young people. Back-to-School Anxiety During COVID has some excellent talking points for your children. Preparing for Back-to-School Success is another great resource from Child Mind.

As we are nearing the start of the school year, here are some ways you can assist your child with the transition:

  • Start Talking-gently open the conversation and let them know you are there to talk. Listening to their concerns and working through those fears will help ease their anxiety.
  • Establish a sleep routine early.
  • Coping strategies-identifying what has worked for them and also you in the past is helpful. Encourage your child to focus more on the present and not too far in the future, which can be overwhelming. Focusing on what they can control (handwashing, packing their backpack the night before) vs. what they can’t (what might happen with the virus in four months) is helpful.
  • Make yourself available as much as possible. Your child may want to “debrief”, but maybe not when you are expecting it. I often find children and adolescents do much better talking when we create space for them in different ways, such as while walking or baking as opposed to always sitting down face-to-face.
  • Focus on the positives-ask them what they are looking most forward to and when school starts, asking them to tell you the best part of their day is helpful.

Here are some excellent books you can read with your child: 15 Books for Kids With Anxiety, As Recommended by Educators. One of our amazing parents also sent this recommendation she has used with her child.

Please feel free to contact me at ksellers@kingslocal.net if you need any additional resources or support for your child.
New Schoool Resource Officer Joins Kings
The Kings Local School District would like to welcome Deputy Travis Barker as our new School Resource Officer. Deputy Barker will replace Deputy Hale in servicing Kings Mills Elementary, J.F. Burns Elementary, Columbia Intermediate Schools.

We are thankful for our partnership with the Warren County Sheriff's Office to be able to provide an additional SRO in the district.

A selection panel from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra chose Mr. Jenkins for his creativity and thoughtfulness in caring for his students.

  • Inspiring creativity and music learning through unique lessons, experiences and/or projects
  • Overcoming exceptional challenges in the classroom
  • Advocating for music and arts education
  • For 2021, the CSO aims to recognize music educators who successfully and creatively navigated the unique challenges of the 2020-2021 school year amongst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Jenkins received a plaque and was recognized on the CSO website. He also received a $250 scholarship to use toward Professional Development of his choice.
Immunization Requirements for 7th & 12th Grade
If you have a student entering either 7th or 12th grade, you will need to make sure their vaccinations are up-to-date prior to school.

Students entering 7th grade will need to have one dose of meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine and one dose of the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis) vaccine.

Students entering 12th grade will need to have a second dose of the meningococcal vaccine. The second dose must be administered on or after the 16th birthday. If the first dose of the meningococcal vaccine was administered after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required.

The Warren County Health District will offer an Immunization Clinic on Saturday, August 28 at 416 S. East St., Lebanon, Ohio. All required vaccines and any recommended vaccines for children entering Kindergarten, 7th grade, and 12th grade will be available.

Call for an appointment at 513-695-1468 or 513-695-1229 or 513-695-1262.
