General Presbyter Sarah Moore-Nokes is stepping down from the position of General Presbyter of Winnebago Presbytery at the end of the year. Sarah has worked for the Presbytery for 15 years, and has brought her quick wit, collaborative approach, empathy, and organizational smarts to this work. We will miss her! At the Nov. 10 presbytery meeting, we will be honoring Sarah and you can help. You can join in honoring her in either or both of the following ways: send a note or a card for a memory book; and/or contribute to a going-away gift. Stewardship is a vital part of keeping our church's ministries alive. The Apostle Paul wrote to the people of Corinth in 2 Corinthians 9:7, “Each one must give as they have decided in their heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

During this year’s stewardship season several of our members are sharing their reasons for giving and how it makes them feel. What is your reason for honoring God with your gift? What have your past gifts helped God accomplish? How has that made you feel? Please share it on Sunday, November 8, Commitment Sunday when we also welcome back Pastor Katie!

The Outreach Committee hopes to keep our tradition of prayer baskets for three Tank School families. We will need to set it up further AHEAD of time because of pandemic reasons. We are asking for Family Coordinators to sign-up specifically by November 10. The youth group will not be having the sleep-over that includes wrapping the gifts this year. So the Family Coordinators will need to complete that part also - possibly by asking friends & family to help wrap gifts. If we do not have three coordinators set by November 10 we will not be able to continue this wonderful mission. Please text or call Stephanie at (920) 609-7510 to sign up.

On November 10 the Presbyterian Pantry will be moving back inside to serve our guests. We will have new instructions posted for everyone. Please use social distancing and EVERYONE must wear a MASK, including our volunteer pantry workers. If there is a medical issue, please state so at check-in and we will bring food out to you. Thank you for helping us honor these safety procedures. We will not be able to have a Treasure Table for safety reasons, nor will we be able to have the Toy Shop this year for the same reasons. This pandemic has not finished, and our main goal is to provide food for guests...safely. If there are any questions please speak to Mary Ginnebaugh or Stephanie Fahringer. We will continue to use the door on Howard St for the pantry on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, November 10 and 24 from 10 am to noon. All are welcome, however MASKS are REQUIRED.

It's so wonderful that we can worship together in so many ways! We are happy to be able to continue to provide a way for First Pres members to "get together and talk" online via Zoom. You received an email from Connie on 8/13 with the information for the Fellowship Sundays at 11:00 a.m. Those who don't have the ability to go online will still be able to call in with the information provided. We hope that you will join us for the next best thing to being able to gather in person. (If you need it resent, please ask Connie ASAP.) It is great to see people's faces or hear their voices! For November, the Pantry volunteers are requesting donations of toilet paper. October 4 was the Peace and Global Witness Offering. In too many places around the world, peace is merely a hope. Conflicts between nations, peoples, and ideas put peace at risk everywhere. During the Season of Peace, we recognize that too many people live in situations that are both unsettled and unjust.

Your gift to the Peace & Global Witness Offering works to address these deep-seated problems by supporting efforts to inspire, equip, and connect Presbyterians engaging in ministries of reconciliation and peace around the world. You may send a check labeled Peace and Global Witness Offering or donate online. Thank you.

Deacons are offering face masks as a fundraiser, through October 31 for FMSC, and after that for the Pantry. Holly has added more! Melissa Peters donated some seasonal fabrics, so we have fall (leaves) and winter masks (snow flakes.)

They are available for sale at church, or you can contact Holly Gehri. Suggested donation of $5 with all proceeds going to FMSC. Purchase of one mask will feed a child for about a week! Holly has made the masks in children's and adult's sizes and she said larger masks can be made to order.

The World Food Program estimates that 265 million people could be on the brink of starvation due to the effects of COVID-19. Please keep FMSC and starving children in your prayers and consider a gift to FMSC through our church if you are able. The deadline to donate is October 31, 2020. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

From Stephanie Fahringer: Dear First Presbyterian Family, THANK YOU from Tank School...kids and administration! I took Julie, the administrative assistant (pictured with a child from Tank) on a shopping spree the first week in October. Due to the pandemic, with fewer people shopping or in the building, our church did not collect as many school supplies as in the past. We do have a line item for Tank that many have contributed to, and it sure did fill the need, as we filled two full shopping carts at one store, followed by a few more stops at dollar stores. Thanks to the generosity of all our members, the Tank kids now have all they need. This is a wonderful church and a great example of our missional direction. I am very grateful to be a part of all we do for others in this neighborhood!
