St. Clare Updates for October 17-30, 2020
|
|
I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving weekend. For many it was very different this year because of Corona Virus restrictions that prevented large family gatherings. That said, we should never stop being thankful as Christians and continue to follow the advice of St. Paul and think and focus on things that are good and commendable!
I love to keep you updated with changes at St. Clare's and I am pleased to announce that we are awaiting the arrival of a new device - an electrostatic sprayer/ defogger that we recently purchased.
|
|
This new, portable and professional grade tool will help to sanitize our church and parish hall with a disinfectant layer that will kill bacteria and viruses, including Coronavirus, MRSA, Norovirus, and cold/flu viruses.
We believe that prevention is the best medicine to best ensure the highest standards. But that also means everyone needs to keep all the good practices that we have adopted since the arrival of the pandemic -keeping a safe distance, washing and disinfecting our hands often, especially when you enter the buildings. Also, I want to remind you that as you choose a seat in our church, please refrain from changing the seats before or during the services! It is cleaned for each service and whoever takes that seat has to stay in it to the end of the Mass.
I want to make sure that you feel a warm welcome as you enter our church buildings but also know that your health is our utmost priority!
Fr. Maciej

"God's Garden"
from the Order of Carmelites
|
“Carmel learned to tell the story of the human heart as a love story. Thinking they were searching for something missing in their lives, Carmelites discovered they were being pursued by a loving presence whose desire for them gave them increased life, greater freedom, and a trustworthy relationship for their guidance.”
from "The Carmelite Way"

Prayer for the Beginning of Autumn
|
O God of Creation, you have blessed us with the changing of the seasons.
As we welcome the autumn months, may the earlier setting of the sun remind us to take time to rest.
May the brilliant colours of the leaves remind us of the wonder of your creation.
May the steam of our breath in the cool air remind us that it is you who give us the breath of life.
May the harvest from the fields remind us of the abundance we have been given and bounty we are to share with others.
May the dying of summer’s spirit remind us of your great promise that death is temporary and life is eternal.
We praise you for your goodness forever and ever. Amen.

Into the Deep: New Saints, New Witnesses
Join us on Friday, Oct. 23 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm on Zoom to learn more about the Saints of October 2020: Blessed Olinto Marella, Blessed Carlo Acutis, and Blessed Michael McGivney. How did a misunderstood priest, a fifteen-year-old gamer and internet geek, and the Founder of the Knights of Columbus get to be Saints?
In this online presentation, Father John Horgan will present the lives of three very unusual saintly men recognized as “Blesseds” in the month of October by the Catholic Church. Who were they and what did they do? What was the witness to Christ that they have left behind? Can they speak to me in the midst of a global pandemic? What is their meaning for my life?
Father Horgan will also give some insight on the process of canonization, including explanations on how the Church recognizes new saints, how many kinds of saints there are, the marks of holiness, and the role of miracles. He will also discuss relics and incorrupt saints. Register online at beholdvancouver.org/events
Email Fraud Warning
The Archdiocese has received multiple reports from parishioners and priests who have fallen victim to a recent Internet email phishing scam. Imposters, posing as priests and using email addresses that are similar to those of our priests, have been emailing people asking for personal donations, gift cards, and other forms of financial assistance.
Never respond to emails requesting Google Play cards, iTunes cards, or any other form of personal financial assistance, even if it appears to be from a priest, deacon, religious, parish staff or bishop. If you have any doubt, please contact the sender by other means to verify any requests.
