Celebrating the diversity of global mental health activities in our community
Saturday April 13th 2019 9:00am-4:00pm
The 2nd Annual GMH@Harvard Open Day will include presentations from faculty, staff, students, post-docs and trainees working in the field of GMH as well as small group networking sessions on the topics presented. The event will also feature keynote speaker:  Patrick J. Kennedy ,  former Congressman (D-RI). Also look forward to breakfast, lunch, and ample time for networking opportunities included throughout the day.

Presenter: Charles Czeisler, MD, PhD - Ever wonder why sleep is such an important part of our lives? Learn how to determine the amount of sleep that you need, improve your sleep health and determine your risk for some of the most common sleep disorders. Charles Czeisler shares his research that reveals why getting sufficient rest is vital to our mental and physical health every hour of the day.

The 12th annual Arab Conference at Harvard is the largest conference in North America focused on the Middle East and North Africa. This year's Healthcare Track will explore what the future of healthcare looks like in the region. Topics include:
  • Removing stigma around mental illness
  • Safeguarding healthcare in conflict zones
  • Improving access through digital health
Attendees will engage with these topics through interactive graffiti and comic book exhibits, workshops, panels, and fireside chats. Panels feature speakers like psychologist Brigitte Khoury and LGBTQ+ activist Hamed Sinno as well as representatives from humanitarian organizations like the ICRC, UNRWA, and SAMS.

April 5-6, 2019, Kresge G2
The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and the Harvard Center on the Developing Child will be co-hosting a conference on Implementation Research and Practice for Early Childhood Development. This conference will bring together global experts, faculty, student, and others working in the field of early child development to discuss current evidence and best practices for effective interventions, pathways to scale, measurement of child development, and priorities in future implementation research, with a particular focus in low- and middle-income countries. In particular, we will be holding a student poster session , which will be a great opportunity for students to present their own work related to global development issues. The deadline for poster abstract submission is March 10. Details are available on our website.

Opportunities
The Geneva Challenge aims to encourage interdisciplinary problem solving analysis among master students on advancing human development within the scope of a relevant topic.
Global Health is a defining challenge of tomorrow’s world and is a critical concern for both developing and developed countries. As the key to this issue is an interdisciplinary solution, crossing traditional boundaries between academic disciplines, we are inviting Master students from all academic programmes and from anywhere in the world to provide helpful strategic recommendations. Five prizes, one per continent, we will be distributed. Registrations close on 24th March 2019. Submission due by 15th July 2019.

Sangath is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation committed to improving health across the life span by empowering existing community resources to provide appropriate physical, psychological and social therapies. Its primary focus areas include child development, adolescent and youth health, and adult health and chronic disease. Started in 1996 by seven professionals in Goa, Sangath developed a vision to provide professional healthcare services for developmental disabilities and mental health problems. Today, it is one of the largest NGOs in the state, with more than 100 service providers, two centres in Goa, projects across India, collaborations with leading institutions in the world, and international recognition for its path-breaking research and intervention programmes in the community.
