Leading an army.

How does an illiterate, 19 year old peasant girl with no military training or experience gain the confidence to lead an army of men into battle?

What characterizes such a woman?

And what might her witness and example speak to the unprecedented challenges facing women of the 21st Century?

Joan of Arc was martyred over five and a half centuries ago and yet, who she was, what she did, and how she did it continues to mystify generation after generation. In our day and time, Joan rises as an icon in a particular way, and her heroic witness speaks a specific rallying cry to modern women.

In an age where heroism is needed more than ever before, when Judeo-Christian values lay like rubble on the floor of our contemporary cultureJoan of Arc stands boldly as an example for today's woman both in the audacity of her mission and the tenacity by which she saw it through to martyrdom.

She understood precisely the kind of woman God intended her to be at that particular moment in history. She singlehandedly brought about the restoration of her homeland and offered it a future full of hope -- because a woman who knows who she is is an unstoppable force in the world!

Women (and girls) need shining examples like St. Joan of Arc to inspire them to fearlessly live out their feminine genius in the modern world. Will that involve leading an army of men into battle? Perhaps. But more likely, it will involve leading your family to pray on the front lines of the local abortion mill. Or standing up when profanity is being used in your workplace. Or leading a team at your parish to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the local homeless shelter.

You can help Women of Grace® to bring the example St. Joan of Arc and other beautiful Catholic saints to women around the world through our studies, events and programming by partnering in our mission to " transform the world one woman at a time  by affirming women in their dignity and vocation as daughters of God and in their gift of authentic femininity through ongoing spiritual formation" and our vision of "a civilization and culture imbued with the spirit of the Gospel renewed, revitalized, and healed through the love of God."
