GVC Updates from the Field
Tree Planting Season is Almost Here!
Trees provide countless environmental and health benefits . So it's hard to contain our excitement for our Spring 2019 tree planting season! Our first event is already full, but there are 3 more opportunities to dig in and plant native trees in the Gunpowder watershed. Perfect for individuals, families, and Scout troops.
One Month Countdown to "Project Clean Stream"
Be part of something bigger! April 6 is the kickoff for Project Clean Stream , the largest clean-up event in the Chesapeake Bay region. The GVC coordinates multiple Project Clean Stream locations in Baltimore County . We are always looking for new Stream Captains to lead clean-up events in the spring and fall. All you need to do is attend one of our free Adopt-a-Stream training sessions.

  • Register to be a Project Clean Stream volunteer on April 6

Live in the Carney area? The Jennifer Branch Conservation Association needs 20 volunteers to help out at their stream clean-up. Email Debbie Lancaster to sign up.
New Funding Source for Tree Maintenance
Enjoy the outdoors while helping the trees! We are excited to announce that our Tree Maintenance program is now funded by the Mountain Club of Maryland-Lester Miles Fund, as well as Baltimore County. Some of the tree maintenance work sites are along popular hiking trails. Since August 2018, our volunteers have helped maintain 1160 trees at Gunpowder Falls State Park (Bunker Hill and Hammerman areas) and Bee Tree Preserve. This Spring we are looking for volunteers to help at Cromwell Valley Park to meet our goal of maintaining 2000 trees. Register online or contact Kim Peabody , Tree Maintenance Coordinator, for more information. See you on the trails!

Miramar Landing HOA: A Case Study for the Chesapeake
Forget model homes. GVC is proud to announce that it has partnered with model environmental stewards from the Miramar Landing HOA! The Miramar Landing Bay-Wise Project, coordinated by our Clear Creeks Project , was recently included as a case study for the Municipal Online Stormwater Training (MOST) Center. Established in 2015, the MOST Center aims to provide municipalities with technical and financial resources to better communicate about, build and enhance local stormwater programs in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The Miramar Landing case study illustrates how a Middle River community implemented microbioretention practices, rain barrels, native trees, and rain gardens to deal with drainage and polluted run-off issues on their common greenspace. Learn more about this award-winning partnership on the GVC website .
Make a Difference
Lucky us! Each year the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC) connects 2000+ volunteers to meaningful environmental stewardship experiences. Your tax-deductible donation to the GVC also helps make our reforestation and watershed restoration projects in the Gunpowder watershed a reality.
Read up on the Bay. The Chesapeake Bay Commission recently released its 2018 Report highlighting legislation relevant to Chesapeake Bay restoration in Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
