Dear Parents,

Here we are in the final three weeks of school. Honestly, this school year has felt like it has been three years long! I am sure that you are feeling that too. Today’s issue of the Newsletter contains VERY important information about the return to school protocols and the process by which you can indicate that you would like to return.

As you will read, we have a WEEKLY registration to attend ON-SITE learning. We are required to distance while at school which means that we must prepare classrooms to accommodate larger numbers of students. When student numbers exceed 13 then we will divide a class into two different rooms and ensure that an adult is supervising each room.

IF YOU HAVE NOT REGISTERED TO COME TO ON-SITE LEARNING FOR THE WEEK OF
JUNE 2-4 PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL. YOU CAN SIGN UP NEXT WEEK FOR SESSION #2. THE PROCESS FOR DOING THAT IS IN THE BLURB THAT FOLLOWS.

We are looking forward to having students in the school again and I want to re-iterate that we are taking every protocol for health and safety seriously. We know that children have a low to nil transmission rate so Dr. Henry has indicated that they are at very low risk of infection and that maintaining two metres of distance is likely NOT possible in this setting but that we should minimize physical contact.

If you have already registered to return June 2-4, please have a very serious conversation with your child about physical contact with their peers. This is NOT business as usual and no amount of rough-housing, high fives etc can be permitted. Any student who WILLFULLY and INTENTIONALLY breaks physical distancing protocols will face consequences which could mean that they will not be able to return for subsequent sessions.

If you have decided that you are not yet interested in having your child return, we want to assure you that they will not be missing out on learning. We do not have an ON-SITE learning menu. Teachers and EA’s will be supporting OFF-SITE learning. No NEW learning will occur ON-SITE.

Thank you again for working in partnership with us! Summer is just around the corner!

On-Site Learning Procedures

We invited a couple of 'students' to the school to create a video that we hope will bring life to all of the words that we have used to describe our on-site procedures. Enjoy the video and we will see you this week!
Reporting on Off-Site Learning

Hello Middle Campus parents,

Thank you for continuing to partner with us as we navigate this unusual season of off-site learning. Many things have changed, including how we will be reporting to you on your child's progress. We would like to take a moment to explain what you can expect to see on the June report card.

During off-site learning, teachers have designed learning around particular learning targets. A learning target is a statement of the intended knowledge, skills and/or understandings that we want students to acquire. Teachers have collected student assignments and then provided feedback in relation to the learning target(s).

We have focused on providing descriptive feedback because of our desire to draw students’ attention to what they can do and how they can move to the next steps in their learning. In the off-site learning environment, we recognize that students have had varying abilities to engage in learning related to factors such as parental involvement, access to technology and their emotional and mental health. As a result, we feel it would not be equitable to give evidence from off-site learning the same weight on our report cards as the evidence we collected in Terms 1 and 2.

In your child's June report card, you will see that they have been given a Final Grade for each subject area. This final grade is a summation of the learning in Terms 1 and 2. The learning in Term 3 is summarized by way of anecdotal comments that will give you an indication of their areas of strengths as well as their next steps in learning.

Please see these sample Term 3 Middle Campus report cards ( Grade 6/7 version and Grade 8 version ) to get an idea of what this will look like.

If you have any questions about this, please feel to get in touch with us via email. We would love to converse with you further about assessment and reporting.
