Community Reception for FY21 Superintendent

Lake Park High School District 108 invites the Lancer community to a special reception to meet Dr. Jeff Feucht, the next Superintendent of Schools, effective
July 1, 2020.
Prior to the regular monthly Board of Education meeting, the reception will be hosted on
Monday, January 27 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the student cafeteria at Lake Park High School East Campus. Parents, students, staff, alumni and community members are encouraged to welcome Lake Park's future educational leader who was unanimously approved by the Board of Education during a special meeting on Wednesday, January 8.
Dr. Feucht, Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services at Glenbard Township High School District 87 since 2012, will replace District 108 Superintendent Dr. Lynn Panega who will be retiring after 16 years in the District, the past 10 years as superintendent. With his appointment, Dr. Feucht becomes the seventh District 108 superintendent.

Second Semester Safety Week: January 21-24

Lake Park High School has designated January 21-24 as Safety Week. Each semester, teachers spend some class time reviewing safety practices and protocols so our Lancers can apply what they learn from emergency drills in each new classroom. The students discuss evacuation, severe weather and active threat procedures.
This semester, I am writing to share important reminders and request your assistance in making sure that Lake Park continues to be a safe and secure location for your students.
"See Something, Say Something"
Lake Park's "See Something, Say Something" campaign encourages anyone to report suspicious or potentially problematic information by calling the Anonymous Tip Hotline at (630) 529-3001. Historically, parents and students have been instrumental in gathering and sharing information about potential problems at school. Families are encouraged to use the Anonymous Tip Hotline if there are any concerns regarding safety at Lake Park.
Rumor Control
When it comes to situations at school, information can spread very quickly through the "grapevine" due to advances in technology and social media. However, the details shared may not always be reliable. To avoid releasing any misinformation, Lake Park will communicate urgent safety information as quickly as possible once it has been thoroughly vetted.
Response to Potential Situations
Lake Park has dedicated staff, practices and procedures in place to ensure the safety of your students in an emergency or potential emergency situation. The District has proactively entered partnership agreements with several local entities to be designated as evacuation sites, which may also become reunification points.
In an emergency situation, it is critically important to allow law enforcement and fire department responders physical access as well as access to cellular channels. First responders rely on open roadways and buildings clear of unnecessary crowds in order to operate. Coming to pick up your student or calling the school or your student could possibly hinder emergency response time by blocking the roadways or communication channels.
Thank you for your attention to these matters and for partnering with Lake Park to ensure the safety of our communities. Families can truly impact the outcome of a crisis or potential crisis.

Financial Aid Planning Workshop
Graduating students and families are invited to a free workshop on January 3o.
Lake Park's Counseling staff will host a free workshop for graduating students on
Thursday, January 30 from 6:30 to
8:00 p.m.
in the West Campus Writing Lab, Room 231A.
Representatives from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) will be available to help students and families as they file these application forms; Spanish Language assistance will also be provided. ISAC is the state agency in Illinois that helps students and families with the college application and financial aid/scholarship processes.
For students pursuing college or other applicable postsecondary programs, it is recommended that all graduating students who are eligible complete the FAFSA and, per ISAC, "The Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid allows qualifying undocumented students and transgender students who are not otherwise eligible for federal financial aid to apply for Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP) grants to attend eligible Illinois colleges, universities, and career education programs."

Seal of Biliteracy
Earn distinction for demonstrating proficiency in multiple languages.
Lancers who have taken an Advanced Placement or Level 4 World Languages course and/or students with bilingual skills have the opportunity to earn a special honor based on their second language abilities. The
Seal of
Biliteracy will be awarded to qualifying Lancers who demonstrate proficiency in both English and either Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Polish, Russian, or Spanish.
The
Seal of
Biliteracy, offered by the State of Illinois, will appear on the student's diploma and official school transcript. Earning this distinction will be an honor that students can share with universities, future employers, and service organizations who value individuals with bilingual skills.
To earn the
Seal of
Biliteracy, students must meet approved proficiency levels on state approved English and World Language assessments, as outlined on the
Intent to Participate form. Applying for this recognition is voluntary and students are responsible for the cost associated with taking the qualifying assessments. An
Intent to Participate form must be completed and returned to Assistant Principal for Student Development, Ms. Ebony Baker, by

Understanding the dangers of posting personal information on social media as well as understanding what comments or posts made by your student could be viewed as threats to others is important information for all families to understand.
Come listen and learn directly from Lake Park School Resource Officers (SROs) who will share specific tips and strategies to have conversations with your students along with ways to monitor their social media platforms.

Ryan Forrest (left) is a 7-year member of the Roselle Police Department. He has spent 3.5 of those years serving as Lake Park's East Campus SRO. Prior to his tenure with the RPD, he spent three years working at the Will County Juvenile Detention Center.

Lancer Basketball Programs Shine

She was recently named a Wintrust Bank/NBC Sports Chicago Athlete of the Week.

During the 48-45 DuKane Conference victory against St. Charles East on Thursday, January 23, Girls Basketball Head Coach Brian Rupp picked up his 100th varsity win! Coach Rupp has led the Lancer Girls Basketball program for seven years and coached many All-Conference players, a Conference MVP, an All-State Player, two 1,000 point scorers, and won an IHSA Regional Title. Coach Rupp has also established a winning culture where he empowers his players and encourages Lancers to be the best they can be.

ary 24 as Lake Park hosts St. Charles East at West Campus (Sophomores 5:45 p.m./Varsity 7:15 p.m.). Tonight's game is the culmination of season-long fundraising and awareness efforts by the entire program in honor of the Kaczmarek family whose son, Giovanni, survived a benign brain tumor. Giovanni and the family
will be recognized at the game. The program has raised over $6,000 to date. Help us push that number even higher! Please consider attending and donating generously. If you cannot attend in person, the team has established a

Tee Up for the Lake Park Educational Foundation

March 5!
The Lake Park Educational Foundation will host this year's Golf Classic on Thursday, March 5 at the new TopGolf Schaumburg. This fun event will allow golfers of all skill levels to have a great time while raising funds for the LPEF's Robotics Partnership, new INCubator program and Emergency Needs Fund. The event includes 3 hours of unlimited golf, buffet dinner and soft drinks.
The cost is $75 per person up to 5 people. Or reserve a private bay for 6 golfers at $400. All golf bays are climate-controlled and include golf clubs and HDTVs.
