Course Selection, Re-enrollment,
& Tuition Assistance
While we wrap up the first semester of this school year, we are already planning for the 2020-2021 school year. I ask that you please read the following information thoroughly as it contains important information regarding course selection, tuition assistance, and re-enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year, and the tentative calendar-at-a-glance.

Course Selection
Please take the time to review our course catalog for next school year by clicking here  or visiting the YC website at  www.yorkcatholic.org . This will assist as you engage in conversation with your student at home regarding their schedule options for next school year. We have added four new elective course options for next year to include Music Theory for grades 10-12, AP Language & Composition for grade 11, AP 2D Art and Design for grade 12, and American Cultural Studies for grade 12. In addition, we are expanding our educational opportunities for our students to include Dual Enrollment at a local post-secondary institution for credit. We will also continue our partnership with Alvernia University for College in the Classroom credit, the York County School of Technology flex program for grades 11 & 12, and the Virtual High School for elective opportunities.

After reviewing the information this week online, we'd like to invite you to one of three parent information sessions hosted by me and Mrs. Kathy Hand, Director of Studies, on the following dates. You are invited to join us for coffee where we will share information in person about course selection and educational options for your children. After a brief presentation, parents will be free to mingle with one another and staff, who will also be available to answer any questions about academic options for your children next school year.

Mrs. Kathy Hand, Director of Studies, and the Guidance Department began visiting Junior High classrooms last week regarding the course selection process for next school year. Junior High students will bring home a list of courses for the 2020-2021 school year to share with you. As part of the pre-course selection process, please review that list with them, provide the necessary parent signature, and have your student return the course selection form. 7th grade forms are due this Friday, January 24, 2020; and 8th grade forms are due Friday, January 31, 2020. Junior high students will register for courses online during computer class in early February.

Senior High students should be talking with their subject level teachers regarding appropriate course selection for 2020-2021. Beginning Monday, February 3, students in grades 9 through 11 will have access to the online course selection portal in VISION. This will remain open for three weeks. During this time, students should select their courses for next school year. After completing the process online, students are instructed to print the course selection sheet and have each of their teachers sign next to the desired subject courses. A parent signature is required as well. These forms will be due Friday, February 21, 2020.

Tuition Assistance
If you plan to apply for tuition assistance for the 2020-2021 school year, please be sure to do so no later than March 1, 2020. Please be sure to note the new deadline as it is earlier than previous years. Please see the additional information below titled "  Letter regarding the FACTS Tuition Assistance Application & Neumann Scholarship guidelines ." If you require assistance in completing this application, you may make an appointment February 5 or 11 with our Business Office Manager, Ms. Heather Dougherty. Please contact her at 717-846-8871 x315 or  [email protected] .

Re-enrollment
In an effort to prepare for the budget and enrollment numbers for next year, we have aligned the re-enrollment process with our course selection calendar. Tuition figures for next year will be published in early April after budget approval by the School Board. In order to budget appropriately, we are asking families to re-enroll now. The early re-enrollment fee is $200.00 per student by February 21, 2020. After February 21, 2020, the re-enrolment fee will increase to $250.00, with an increase to $300.00 after April 3, 2020. $200.00 of the re-enrollment fee will be applied to your child's 2020-2021 fees.

PSAT 10
Any interested sophomore is invited and encouraged to take the PSAT 10 this spring at York Catholic. The PSAT 10 mirrors the PSAT, and offers a tenth grader the opportunity to preview and practice for the actual PSAT without stress over score reporting. Scores from the PSAT 10 are not reported and do not impact college applications in any way. Students benefit from the opportunity to engage with the material and become familiar with the format of the test before taking the PSAT in October of their junior year.   PSAT test scores do count; those scores are referenced to determine Merit Scholars, and free practice tests are available online through College Board. Features of the PSAT 10 are as follows:
  • The PSAT 10 is a three-hour exam, featuring a math section and a reading/writing section.
  • Each section is worth 760 points for a possible total composite of 1520.
  • The math section targets algebra and advanced math problems. A spring testing session is optimal as sophomores will be concluding a year of Algebra II.
The test will be offered in the York Catholic library from 8-11 AM on Saturday, April 18. Any interested sophomore must register by February 14. Click here for the registration form; they are also available in the main office. Cost per student is $20.00, and checks can be made out to York Catholic. Questions may be directed to Kathy Hand at  [email protected] .
