This kitchen, c1900 was remodeled in 2005. The home was passed down - a large Victorian home registered in the historical registry with Irish traditions woven throughout.
Imagine your husband is in hospice after a long battle with cancer. That was her life. Day after day she would spend her time in medical waiting rooms, and would combat the devastation with creation, imagining a new place for her and her three teenagers to stay nourished and to stay strong.
Her dream was to turn a dysfunctional kitchen into a healthy place, that functioned better so that her three kids could all prepare food together and prepare for their next steps in life. That stage, going to college, was supported by the safe place she embarked to create.

This strong woman renewed her life with her family, by pouring herself into this new project.
I designed it and did a rendering she could put by her bedside. I worked out the kinks and made it flow, we worked hard. To symbolize her dream, she choose three handmade tiles with a Celtic design for each one of her children and we embedded them in the center of the backsplash. We created a focal point around the range with same colour oak of the 100 year old fireplace hearth and mantle on the opposite side.
Recently she painted out the oak to cream to lighten things up, and the children have grown and finished school.
The arbour of grape vines, her late husband built himself, grows up every year outside the kitchen window, and the family lived on happily.

It was only 5 years earlier that I had lost my son to cancer. Many of you have no idea how you’ve helped me! By being able to help you work out your dream interiors I’ve been able to renew. When things were dark and tangled it was always the new project that lit the way with a new creation to be made.
My now grown daughter and son are well and with the anticipation of new babies and homes with strong healthy nourished families living there drives me on. There are many ways to create new life. New pets and life of any kind can help you feel a renewal. My hope is for you to be able to help yourself and others renew.
Creating and design can help you renew the spirit in your home. It’s a valid therapy better than any drug. Go out and create or go to a new environment. And make it your own.
