Call For Volunteers!
IFMA started working with UW Professional & Continuing Education and BOMA to build a long-term strategy for cultivating the pipeline of facility managers in order to meet the growing needs of the workforce.

Our next step will be to establish a working group with key stakeholders in the region. This collaboration is still in the early stages but if you are interested in joining this working group please email Bob Tribo at [email protected].

Education Opportunity
The South Seattle College Bachelor of Sustainable Science Technology faculty has received permission to continue a pilot program in the Spring Quarter for individuals to enroll in SBST 422 Facility Management (4 credits), a course previously only available to cohort students. This course is a comprehensive overview of the field, especially for those considering taking the CFM exam. It is also an excellent course for senior staff members who are supervising facility managers, and may not have a background in this discipline.

This deeper dive into Facility Management is offered in a hybrid format; 80% online and 20% at four Saturday meetings at the Georgetown campus during the Spring quarter (April 1 - June 14, 2019). The course is taught by CFM Exam Review course IFMA Instructor Victoria Hardy, CFM and ASHRAE Associate. It utilizes the definitive textbook on this subject, The Facility Management Handbook, written by IFMA practitioners. And the best news is that the total tuition and fees are modest (under $1,000!).

For enrollment details, please contact Anneke Hercules, SBST Program Manager, at [email protected] or call her direct line at 206-934-6783. Also feel free to contact Victoria Hardy at [email protected] for further information about the course content and your eligibility.

This hybrid degree is designed for working adults to complete in two years; classes are held online and on occasional Saturdays during the quarter. Come check out what it's about at our Open House in the evening on Wednesday, March 20th (online attendance options available). More about our SBST program and how to apply.

Benchmarking 101: Learn to Benchmark your building
The City of Seattle is offering a free workshop for participants that are new to the energy benchmarking process or want a refresher. Participants will learn how to benchmark their building's energy performance using the free online tool ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager to support compliance with the City of Seattle's annual benchmarking and reporting requirement. Participants will learn about the benchmarking process and local utility services available to auto-upload energy consumption data from Seattle City Light, Puget Sound Energy and Enwave. Workshop participants will create an account in Portfolio Manager and begin the initial energy performance rating for their building with guidance from an experienced benchmarking instructor complimented by individual support from the help desk technical assistant. Participants are encouraged to bring data from their own building to the session. A data collection sheet will be emailed to you prior to the workshop. Sample building data will be available for participants who do not bring their own data.
