The St. Johns County School District and the local Department of Health are working together to follow the recommended guidelines of the CDC regarding Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). This guidance offers specific steps for school staff, parents, and students to take during the current low-risk conditions, as well as for more severe conditions. It is recommended, that based on current conditions, students and staff with flu-like illness stay home until at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or signs of a fever. This should be determined without the use of fever-reducing medications (i.e., any medicine that contains ibuprofen or acetaminophen).
The CDC emphasizes washing hands, respiratory etiquette and staying home when sick:
- Practice good hand hygiene. Students and staff members should wash their hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also effective.
- Practice respiratory etiquette. Illnesses can spread from person to person in the droplets produced by coughs and sneezes, so it is important to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder, not into your hands.
- Stay home if you are sick. Keeping sick students home means decreasing the spread of germs to others.
- For further information visit www.floridahealth.gov and www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/.

Here are the School Counselor caseloads and appointment links:
Course Registration for the 2020-2021 School Year:
Course registration for the 2020-2021 school year started on Monday, January 13
th
. School Counselors will be in classrooms every day between now and spring break in order to meet with each student one-on-one regarding their individual selections. All of the information regarding scheduling (our schedule to meet with students, the PowerPoint presentation from the parent night, course progressions, the elective video, and course catalog) are available on our website. If parents have specific questions, it is recommended that they write them on their student’s course registration form so that the School Counselors can address those concerns during their individual meeting. Students will receive their recommendation form a few days before their scheduled visit and will need to have spoken with their parents regarding their selections, considered which electives and scheduling options they want, and obtained a parent signature on their recommendation form prior to attending their appointment. For more details, please see the “Checklist for the Course Registration Process” on-line.
This week we will be meeting with: 8
th
graders at the middle schools. Please be patient with us while we are off campus.
Parents:
Do you work for a company that hires high school graduates? Would you like an opportunity to recruit Nease High School seniors? We are hosting a technical college and career fair on April 1

Please make sure you are checking the e-mail address that you provided to your Naviance account as we will start sending larger senior specific updates through Naviance. Returning students should have received their Naviance registration code last spring in order to set up their accounts. If you need that information again, you can get it from your School Counselor. Once you have registered, you can continue to access your account here:
https://student.naviance.com/allennease
Juniors:
School Counselors visited Junior English classes before Thanksgiving. We worked with students to confirm that they are aware of all the classes that they need to graduate. We also worked on developing their college lists of potential schools and careers. Students received their Naviance codes so that they can log into their Naviance accounts here:
https://student.naviance.com/allennease
and start saving potential colleges and careers to their “Colleges I’m Thinking About” and “Careers I’m Thinking About” sections. Students are encouraged to start working on their resumes in Naviance as these will be required for their college letters of recommendation next year. Please ask your student to review the packet that they received. It includes their remaining credits for graduation, SAT/ACT test dates, Bright Futures information, and their checklist for college/career planning.
It is also time for Juniors to start taking the SAT and ACT. Your goal is to have a solid test score by the end of the school year so that you can start submitting college applications in the summer
Sophomores:
All Sophomores received their course recommendations for the 2020-2021 school year on January 29
