Irish eyes are smiling and getting ready to polka at the KC Hall in West on Sunday. Music from 1-6 pm with The Moravians and Jodie Mikula Orchestra. Dance a jig. Drink green beer. Dine on Irish stew.

The March issue of Texas Polka News includes the 4th Annual Spring & Summer Fest Guide. Find out the music lineups and activities at popular festivals like the South Texas Polka & Sausage Festival in Hallettsville, celebrating its 40th year. Also marking milestone anniversaries are the Burton Cotton Gin Festival and the Texas Folklife Accordion Kings and Queens in Houston, both turning 30 this year. Check out who's playing at the National Polka Festival in Ennis, Schulenburg Sausagefest, Kolache-Klobase Festival in East Bernard, Germanfests in Tomball and Muenster, Polish Days in Bremond, and Slavnost at the Czech Center in La Grange. There are even a couple of out-of-state festivals worth the road trip - Beckster Fest in Iowa and Pulaski Polka Days in Wisconsin. Czech Newspaper Museum to Open in La Grange
The Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange will hold a Grand Opening Dedication of the Czech Newspaper Museum-České Noviny Muzeum on Sat., March 16 at 2 pm. The new museum is a replica of an early print shop and will tell the story of many early Czech newspapers printed across Texas. Also included in the museum is a printing press, gas engine, and related equipment used to print those newspapers. Read more.


Houston Saengerbund Hosts German Music and Language Scholarship Competition March 30
The Houston Saengerbund is excited to present a new opportunity to foster German language and music by engaging in community outreach. For the very first time, high school seniors from Houston area schools will participate in a German music and language scholarship competition at the Houston Saengerbund on Sat., March 30 at 7 pm.
