TEDxLutherCollege

Accreditation Information

As part of the site visit by the Higher Learning Commission
on March 11-12, three open forums will be held. The forums provide faculty, staff and students opportunities to interact with the team from the Higher Learning Commission and to provide additional input regarding Luther’s satisfaction of the criteria for accreditation. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend the forums; no reservations are required to attend. All three forums will be held in Peace Dining Room.
- Forum 1: Monday, March 11, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Focus Areas: Mission, Diversity, Student and Faculty Involvement in Community and Society, Ethics, and Fair Policies and Procedures (Criteria 1 and 2).
- Forum 2: Monday, March 11, 3:45-4:45 p.m. Focus Areas: Quality of Academic Programs, Faculty Qualifications, Program Review, Course Availability, Advising, Assessment of Student Learning, and Retention (Criteria 3 and 4).
- Forum 3: Tuesday, March 12, 8:30-9:30 a.m. Focus Areas: Finances, Strategic Planning, Future Plans, and Institutional Effectiveness (Criterion 5).
Faculty, staff and students are invited
to review the Assurance Argument submitted to the Higher Learning Commission in advance of the accreditation open forums. The Assurance Argument has been posted on the
Accreditation
site on KATIE. In order to access the Accreditation site, faculty, staff and students must self-enroll as a student in the course. Contact the Technology Help Desk with questions about self-enrolling in the course.
A preparatory session in advance
of the accreditation open forums will be held 9:40-10:50 a.m. Thursday, March 7, in the Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall. The session is open to all faculty, staff and students. At the session, Brad Chamberlain will address questions about the site visit and Assurance Argument.

Irish folk group Goitse
(pronounced Go-wit-cha) will perform as part of the Center Stage Series on Thursday, March 14, 7:30 p.m. in the CFL Main Hall.
The group’s distinctive sound lies in the quality of their own compositions interspersed with traditional tunes from the countryside of Ireland and abroad.
This is a green card event and tickets are FREE for students with CAF — general admission tickets available for all Luther students.

Ash Wednesday Jazz Liturgy
– The community is invited to an ecumenical Ash Wednesday Jazz Liturgy with special guest Keith Hall and music by Collegiate Chorale,
7 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, in the Center for Faith and Life.Join us for the Lenten call to renewal at the Ash Wednesday Jazz Liturgy, with Keith Hall and a jazz ensemble led by Jon Ailabouni. Hosted by the Luther Congregation & St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. Keith Hall will also speak in chapel, Wednesday, March 6.
Luther College will host
its annual Benefactor's Organ Recital, featuring Kimberly Marshall, professor of organ at Arizona State University. The recital will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 10, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life.

Enjoy the adventure on Saturday, March 9. The rooms will be set up in the Mott-Borlaug Room of the Dahl Centennial Union. While a liberal arts education
has been known to foster creativity, agility and resilience, its value is often overlooked among the fast-changing priorities of the world. Lisa Anderson, senior lecturer at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, will speak on the value of liberal arts education in a globalized world 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206. A reception will follow the lecture.
Giving a multimedia introduction

Keith Hall
, a joyful performer and consummate drummer will present a guest jazz artist recital, with Luther College faculty at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 7, in the Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall.

Art Blakey at 100: A Musical Celebration of Blakey and the Jazz Messengers
, includes music by Benny Golson, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Bobby Timmons and other distinguished alumni of Blakey's Jazz Messengers.
With an intense commitment
to building an "Ecological State" and developing "Ecological Civilization," China's central government has built a foundation to lead the world in green development. Bard College professor Christopher Coggins will give a lecture on the development of the global environmental challenge at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5 in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206. , a supervisory geneticist of the Whitney Genetics Laboratory in Onalaska, Wisconsin, is presenting a lecture about Asian carp as an invasive species, as well as the use of an environmental DNA monitoring program (eDNA) in controlling Asian carp populations. The lecture takes place at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, March 7, in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206.
Alumna Kadra Abdi
, Class of 2008, is a strategic consultant who spends her days helping minority businesses and nonprofits craft strategies and counteract the often-negative assumptions that arise between immigrant and mainstream communities. At 4 p.m. on
March 6, she will speak in the Dahl Centennial Union, Hammarskjold Lounge.

We invite you to read the anonymous stories of others failures, or to add your own. In a culture where we are often afraid to fail, we hope to normalize failure by speaking of it.
