PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Greetings Daves Avenue Families,

Summer is right around the corner! While our traditional travel plans may look drastically different than in years past, there are plenty of opportunities for exploration. Explore, learn, and have fun from the privacy of your own homes. For instance, you can virtually visit a wide range of museums from around the world.  Perhaps you haven’t visited a zoo in years and you would like to watch elephants drink from a watering hole in real time. Consider visiting Ehukai Beach in Oahu and enjoy Pipeline Surfing from the comfort of your living room. If you are feeling adventurous, consider visiting a national park from Florida to Alaska . If you run out of online adventures, use your imaginations to have the staycation of your dreams!

As a reminder, our 5th grade promotion celebration will be streamed Live on YouTube next Thursday, June 4th, at 10:00 A.M. Please consider joining as we collectively wish our students well as they embark on their journey to middle school. The link will be shared next Wednesday in The Avenue.

Attached you will find a bicycle maintenance checklist for all of you cyclists out there, courtesy of Los Gatos Safe Routes To School team.
Kind regards,
Principal, Daves Avenue Elementary School

Authors' Day Artwork
There is an art square on the library wall for nearly every Authors' Day author who has ever visited our library. The squares go back to 1992, and this tradition was begun by Florence Adamson, who was our librarian for 20 years.
Amazing ART is part of what gives the library the warm and cozy feeling it has!!

Some authors are honored multiple times (for multiple visits). Some artists have done multiple squares. The art squares honor and thank our visiting authors, and are especially fun for first-time visitors, whom we enjoy surprising. Some would kinda like to take their squares home 😊. Look below for this year's artwork.
Special Thank You's to our artwork framer Blanca Quiterio, and to our Authors' Day Chair Vanessa Mockler and her daughter Sabrina.
COMMUNITY
Feed Our Heroes is a campaign, led by our Los Gatos Education community, to supply free meals to local healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus.

The campaign has already raised money for over 2,200 meals, but more are needed. All meals are sourced from Los Gatos restaurants, providing local businesses much-needed support during these tough times.

A simple meal at the end of a long shift is well-deserved thanks to our healthcare worker’s dedication and service.

We hope you will join us and contribute to Feed Our Heroes.

Visit:  Feed Our Heroes

All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of the funds go towards purchasing meals.

Feed Our Heroes fits alongside #FeedTheNeed BayArea, another local initiative led by the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce. #FeedTheNeedBayArea provides meals for the most vulnerable Los Gatos citizens (seniors, displaced workers, low-income families), while Feed Our Heroes supports healthcare workers.  Both campaigns are worthy of your support.
