Jewelry That Makes You Think.
INTERVIEW
Diversifying Art, Craft, and Design by Connecting BIPOC Makers with Opportunities
By Chava Krivchenia

Crafting the Future (CTF) is an organization that sharpens the power that community fosters through relationships, shared inner and outward growth, communication, and communing. Exploring a future in action and practice, CTF morphs into the needs required by a given moment and individual. Its versatility is one of the awe-inspiring qualities of Crafting the Future, and also what allows the organization to touch so many lives and artistic practices. We interview its director, Corey Pemberton, and deputy director, Annie Evelyn, discussing the origins and future of CTF and its importance to the craft community at large.

For this special ticketed event, we invited several AJF members who are major jewelry enthusiasts to be “guest stars” in a virtual art jewelry consultation with gallerist Marie-José van den Hout. Based on their responses to a brief questionnaire, Marie-José will personally choose a piece of jewelry from her inventory for each “guest star,” one she thinks would be perfect for them. During the AJF Live event, she’ll present her selection on a life-size photo of the guest so they and the audience can see how it would look on. She’ll also talk about the artist who made the piece, and explain why she picked this particular jewel as an excellent choice for the guest. Be a bystander at a consultation between one of today’s elite gallerists and some of the biggest art jewelry enthusiasts and collectors!
