Resilience
In the spirit of May being Mental Health month,
we’d like to focus on the aspect of resilience. In
the spring of 2019, I had the opportunity to attend
a professional development event on Resilient
Coaching by Rachel Wagner, a national trainer for the Devereux organization. In that session, she
provided us with a definition of “Resilience – the ability to recover from or adjust to misfortune or
change. The ability to bounce back.” Resilient coaching fosters a culture of resilience. What is that you might ask?
“A culture of resilience provides an environment where:
- healthy relationships are a priority between all learners
- initiative is nurtured with consistency and flexibility
- self-regulation is supported by openly talking about feelings and learning healthy coping skills
- internal beliefs are reflected upon and strengthened through positive feedback”
Putting on your Resilience Lenses supports your ability to Pause, Reflect, Focus, and Take Action! Relationships are one of the most important aspects of resilience and they have the capacity to create ripple effects with far reaching impacts.
Ann Masten calls it Ordinary Magic! Where resilience is comprised of ordinary rather than extraordinary processes. What Ordinary Magic have you witnessed or been a part of lately? Be on the lookout!
