There's still time to get tickets for the annual ECW Christ Church Tour of Homes, on Saturday, March 16! Get all the information you need here. |
A few Christmases ago, I rented a trailer to haul a family heirloom home. Donna's uncle, who lives in his parents' restored farmhouse on the family farm, also has the original barn. He and her cousin were beginning to clear the barn out, in the hopes that it could be used as an event venue. In the process, they came across the old wood-burning stove that Donna had gotten at the estate auction after her grandparents had both died. The stove had sentimental value; she had stood at that stove with her grandmother for countless hours and had watched her grandmotherly magic worked on that stove for much of her childhood.
After the auction, the enameled wood stove, with six burners, an oven, and hot water reservoir, was put into the garage. Donna didn't have a place to put it as a kid, and hey, that's what barns are for, right? So we went over to the farm and inspected the stove. It was pretty much worn out. The years of use and high heat of the stove had virtually burned up much of the interior. All the exposed cast iron had rusted over the years, and the enamel had been chipped in places. Donna was still in love with it, so I rented a U-Haul trailer and brought it back from Pennsylvania.

Centering Prelude During Lent |
Preparing for worship is an important part of the experience for any worship service. So is greeting those we know and love. Our hope is that we can find a way to balance the two. As a general rule, we would like to invite all worshippers to prepare for worship with some silent prayer and reflection, perhaps reviewing the lectionary commentary in the wrapper, or simply in silent prayer. To aid parishioners who choose to do this, we also ask that in the moments before a service begins we keep talking to a minimum, or at least at a low volume out of respect for those who may be praying.
During the Season of Lent, the Preludes at the 9:15 am and 11:15 am services will include the use of the Singing Bowls we use at X Church. They serve as a call to worship without words, along with an organ or piano prelude without a known melody. The sound is meant to draw us in, to offer a calming invitation to reflection, and to allow our focus to begin to center on God and what God has to say to us today.
When you hear the Singing Bowls at the start of services during Lent, hear them as an invitation to be still and meet God.

Memorial Gifts |
|
From time to time we are asked if there are things the Church can use that might be given as a memorial for a loved one or in thanksgiving for a blessing. Below is a list of opportunities for giving memorials and who you might contact about them. This is a sort of wish list; things that would be nice to have, but aren't in the budget. If you would like to make a memorial gift, please speak with the listed contact so that they know to expect the gift and can instruct you how the gift can be made. Partial gifts towards an item are possible as well.
Current Memorial Opportunities:
Christ Church Outdoor Nativity: GIFTED - THANK YOU! We have obtained a high-quality outdoor creche scene suitable for the front lawn of Christ Church, a post-Christmas opportunity that dramatically reduced the cost for such a set. The intent is to create a simple backdrop for the figures and light them at night. Some figures stand nearly six feet tall. Contact: Fr. Tom at
tom@ccfssi.org
Timpani Drum Set: $4000 We would like a pair of timpani drums to bolster our music program and be available for regular use in our music program. Contact: Kathleen Turner at
kathleen@ccfssi.org
Outdoor Stations of the Cross: GIFTED - THANK YOU!
St. Ignatius currently has a partial set of stations in the garden for outdoor use. We would like to replace the weathered stations and expand the arrangement to include all fourteen stations. The cost includes all fourteen stations and lumber to mount the stations not already installed in the garden. Contact: Fr. Tom at
tom@ccfssi.org
Acolyte Robes: $1750 We are updating our acolyte ministry and their wardrobe. Each robe costs approximately $75 each. We need various sizes/lengths. Contact: Mtr. Katie at
katie@ccfssi.org
Sanctuary Chairs: 3 CHAIRS GIFTED - THANK YOU! We would like to add additional folding chairs in Christ Church in the choir area to replace the metal chairs. Chairs are $200 each and are the same style used at the altar, dark wood with red pads. We hope to get 8, total. Contact: Kathleen Turner at
kathleen@ccfssi.org
Choir Robes: GIFTED - THANK YOU! There is a regular need to replace worn out choir robes for our adult choirs. Robes are $100 each. Contact: Kathleen Turner at
kathleen@ccfssi.org
