" Guard the mouth of your heart from evil, and you will be innocent."  ~St. Augustine
In the readings for this Sunday we are presented with a similar message from both Sirach, a Jewish sage whose writing preceded Jesus by about 200 years and from Jesus in the gospel passage. They both remind us that the words which issue forth from our mouths reveal the thoughts within our hearts.  We are known by the fruits we produce, in this case what we say and how we say it. So as to bear “good fruit” (Lk 6:43) the Lord encourages us to fill our hearts with the goodness that God desires. As you prepare for Mass this weekend, ask the Lord for the grace to use your words this week to sow unity and to build up the people that He places in your path.
  • Lent begins next week. Ashes will be distributed at all Masses on Wednesday, March 6th as follows: 8 AM, 10:30 AM, 4 PM, 7 PM.
  • There are lots of programs beginning this week to help our community make Lent a more intentional period of preparation for Easter. For information on all of them please visit our website at staugustineparish.org/Lent or check out pp. 5-7 of this week's bulletin.
  • Devotional booklets for the season of Lent are available in the back of the church at all Masses this weekend. Please help yourself to a copy, while supplies last.
The 2019 Boston Catholic Appeal officially begins this weekend with an in-pew commitment at all Masses. Your gift to the Catholic Appeal helps provide the funding for many important programs that enrich parish life, our Catholic schools, and the lives of many. Every gift has an immediate impact in our parish communities. See this year's video...
