Fall Community Day

Regents Center Circle Drive
Luther College invites alumni, parents and friends of the college to join its annual Fall Community Day .

The day begins with the Community Day Picnic at Regents Center Circle Drive at 11:30 a.m. catered by U-2 BBQ. At 1 p.m. Luther football faces the Loras College Duhawks for a home game on Legacy Field at Carlson Stadium.

Other home athletic events of the day include Luther women's golf who play in the Luther Invitational at the Oneota Golf and Country Club with tee-off at noon and Luther volleyball who face the College of St. Benedict in the Regents Center at 2 p.m.

Dr. Megan Stubbs

Relationship expert and body image specialist Megan Stubbs will present the program "The F Word, Understanding Fat and Body Image" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206. Co-Sponsored by Luther's SAC Impact and Luther Wellness, the cost of admission is $5, free with CAF.
Soda Shoppe will be Saturday, September 22 at 8:45 p.m. in Marty's. Listen to performances from the Jazz Band and Jazz Orchestra and enjoy ice cream novelties (1 free with CAF or $1 without). Sponsored by SAC Special Events.

The Washington Semester internship coordinator will be on campus Tuesday, September 18. Students who would like to speak with her about the program can meet with her in Koren 305 from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

TEDxLutherCollege is the first TEDx conference in Luther College, to be held this spring. We are creating our organizing team and need volunteers to help us in organizing it. If you are willing to be part of organizing team, please fill in this short form by Friday, September 21. If you have any question, please contact Massi Faqiri .

Congratulations to Luther student Asha Aden on receiving the Interfaith Youth Core Rising Star award at the 2018 Interfaith Leadership Institute in Chicago this past August. Asha was one of 2 recipients to receive an IFYC Campus Leadership Award. Asha will be speaking in an Interfaith Storytelling Chapel on Friday, September 21, 10:30-10:50 a.m., in the CFL. Join us this Friday for Chapel and a brief reception in the CFL lobby before and after Chapel to honor Asha.

Want to spend J-term in Hawaii studying the challenges U.S. schools face?  Paideia 450: Making Decisions for U.S. schools in Hawaii has three openings for students with Junior Status or above. RERUNS
Todd Green , associate professor of religion, will give a lecture for the first Religion Forum of the year on Thursday, September 20, at 7:00 p.m. in the F.W. Olin Building, Room 102. His lecture is titled  Presumed Guilty: Why We Shouldn't Ask Muslims to Condemn Terrorism,  and will be based on his new book by the same title. A book signing will follow the lecture.

Spend J-Term 2019 in Tanzania:   The Paideia 450 course "People and Parks: Pastoralism and Conservation in East Africa" has openings! This is a cultural immersion experience based in Maasai villages, small towns, and wildlife conservation areas in northern Tanzania. For more information contact Lori Stanley  or Emily Neal  or stop by the CGL. Note: Must have 60 credits by the end of fall semester to apply.

The GRADUATE/PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL DAY will be held in the Dahl Centennial Union on Thursday, September 20 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Over 45 universities will be attending to visit with students about their various programs and application process.

The documentary "The 'S' Word" looks into the lives of four suicide attempt survivors and one family dealing with the loss of a loved one who died by suicide. Sponsored by Luther College Active Minds and Luther's Counseling Service, Social Work Department, and Center for Intercultural Engagement and Student Success, the screening and discussion of the film is 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206. Popcorn will be provided while supplies last.

With the beginning of the migration of the monarch butterflies to Mexico, the Luther College entomology class will host a monarch butterfly migration banding event in Anderson Prairie on the Luther College campus from 1:30-4 p.m. Sunday, September 16.

Environmental Studies Coffee Break:  Tuesday, September 18, 9:40-10:50 in Valders 384. Come join fellow students and ENVS faculty members for coffee, tea, and casual conversation. A great chance to connect with students and faculty in the program.

Book Shop News -- Saturday, September 29 from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. the Luther College Book Shop will be hosting a Book Fair in Valders for the Luther Writers Festival. The Book Shop will also be open from 10:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. for the festival. Stop in the Book Shop today to pick up copies of your favorite authors coming to the festival as they will be signing purchased books throughout the event.
