 Who's a pretty bird?

Our facility cares for more than just cats and dogs. We often house and care for singles or pairs of parakeets. Most are often surrendered to us but we have also received stray parakeets as well. Parakeets are social birds and require toys and companionship to thrive in a domestic setting.
Is a parakeet the right pet for you? Give us a call at 608-781-4014 with any questions about parakeet ownership.

Did you know?
  • The word parakeet literally means "long tail."
  • Parakeets (or "budgies") are indigenous to Australia. Their natural plumage is yellow and green. Through captive breeding, many different variations are now available.
  • On average, a parakeet's life span is 12 to 15 years.
  • Very different from a parrot, parakeets do not use their feet to hold food that is being consumed.
  • If a parakeet regurgitates for you, it means they consider you a family member and is trying to feed you like they would feed their young.

Louie and Emerald are a bonded pair and are still looking for a home! Their adoption fee is $10 for the pair as well as the cage their housed in. Consider opening your home to these two beauties.

 Featured Pet: Jenova

Jenova is an affectionate one year old spayed female. She is very curious and loves to be around people too. She's currently one of our front lobby cats and likes to "help" with office duties such as making copies and greeting guests.  She is quite the comedian and you can often find her napping in our mailbox on the front counter.

Jenova would benefit being in a home with lots of toys and scratching posts to keep her busy! She should do well with other pets if given a proper introduction and do well with respectful children under parental supervision.

Stop in to meet this one of a kind kitty!

 Get Involved
There are several ways you can become more involved with our shelter. You can spend your free time socializing with the animals by becoming a volunteer , participate in and attend one of our many fundraisers or events , sponsor a kennel , become a foster parent or simply make a financial donation online. However you want to help, know that it is greatly appreciated and truly does impact the lives of the thousands of homeless animals that enter our shelter every year. We need your help to help them!
