A Message from Councilmember Malnar

February 28, 2020

Dear Sahuaro District Residents,

This week the City Council approved another development agreement with Ball Metal Beverage Container Corp, to develop a $300 million, 500,000 square foot state of the art metal beverage container manufacturing facility near the 303 and Northern Avenue. The site will create more than 190 new positions with an average wage of $65,000 per year.

On Thursday of this week, the Glendale Chamber hosted Mayor Jerry Weiers State of the City address at the Renaissance Hotel, where the Mayor provided highlights of the past year and an optimistic glimpse into the future.

On a final note, I apologize to those residents who attended the Shred Event on Saturday but were unable to receive shredding services. The trucks began operations at 7:30 a.m., but due to heavy rain, two of the trucks jammed from wet paper. Two trucks that remained working continued until about 9:45 a.m. and shut down once they were full. The trucks did accept and shred over 6 tons of paper before the event shut down. The next Shred Event is scheduled for May 16th at the Glendale Adult Center.

Have a nice weekend, and enjoy watching your favorite Spring Training baseball team or attending this weekend's Folk & Heritage Festival.

Ray Malnar
Vice Mayor
