Speaker: Gina Skinner-Thebo,  
a young professional, mother and wife whose personal experience with suicide prompted her to transform her grief into positive action related to awareness and prevention of suicide. Gina founded the Atwood Center for Women and quarterly hosts Incredible Women Parties to help women interact more effectively and authentically. Gina's message is one of hope and healing as she responds to this health crisis in our country - and in Iowa.

Honoree: Susan Voss, 
a longtime advocate for mental health services and specifically the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center. Susan has served ten years on the Center's Board, including as Board President. Professionally, Susan is the Vice President Government Relations at American Enterprise Group, Inc. and prior to that served for eight years as the State of Iowa Insurance Commissioner. Susan is recognized as a remarkable community advocate whose fun, fair and open-minded leadership style results in "getting things done!" Susan is a role model and mentor for many and remains passionate about empowering women and supporting those in need of mental health services.

About the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center
 
Mission:
Founded in 1972, the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center brings understanding, hope, and healing to people of all ages through holistic mental health counseling and education. Last year the Center served more than 5,800 individuals including 645 children plus their families.
 
A roster of 31 licensed, multidisciplinary clinicians deliver the following key services:
  • Counseling, including a specialized approach for children and adolescents
  • Psychiatry, including medication management
  • Psychological testing and assessment
  • Spiritual Direction
  • Holistic nursing
  • Clinical training, suicide prevention and intervention training
  • Leadership and Spiritual Life programs
  • Community education such as courses in MBSR™ (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction™)
