Assembly Passes Adoption Assistance Bill
On January 15 on a voice vote, the Assembly passed an amended AB-564 (Rep. Jeff Mursau, R-Crivitz), which makes available state adoption assistance payments for families adopting children seven years of age or older (if age is the only factor in determining eligibility), as well as children who are part of a sibling group of two or more who must be placed together. The Senate has waived a public hearing and instead will take a floor vote on the bill tomorrow. The WCC registered in support.
WCC Supports Pollution Notifications
Last week, the WCC registered in support of
AB-700
(Rep. Jill Billings, D-La Crosse), which requires the Department of Natural Resources to notify the county health department and county land and conservation department in the county in which a Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit holder is located, if that permit holder has violated groundwater standards, as well as notify the county health department and county land and conservation department in any adjacent county that the DNR determines may be negatively affected by the violation. The bill received a public hearing, but no further action.
