The senior drive-through this past Sunday was one of those rare moments that seem to foreshadow the sense of belonging that awaits us in eternity.
This unique event was created to celebrate our seniors and make up for the numerous DC traditions that they were denied because of the pandemic. However, this day grew into something much bigger than I think we ever anticipated and it gave me a new appreciation for God's omniscience and sovereignty.
Many of us have grieved the missed opportunities and lost once-in-a-lifetime experiences for these students, yet it's been evident that God has been busy crafting his own plan all along. The final quarter of their high school career was certainly not what we ever wanted, but it played out perfectly according to God's plans.
I have no doubt these 76 students have experienced a deep range of emotions since March, including a mixture of confusion, anger, anxiety, and grief. Regardless of how well they chose to accept their circumstances, God has been faithfully at work to make something special out of their unique time of isolation.
That's what I saw as my wife Linda and I drove onto DC's parking lot this past Sunday. Each senior we passed told their story, shared their emotions, and displayed their personality around their car. It was a testament to what God had done in their life at DC, and proof of God's faithfulness.
One image has stuck with me from that day, and it was that of one of our seniors standing tall on top of his car, dancing, beaming and joking with his friends around him. As I watched, I thought of how this is a class that is being prepared to stand tall for Christ.
Images from that day also make me think of James 1:4 which says, "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."
I am so proud of the Class of 2020, and am confident that God has used this time to bring them closer to the completion that God desires in their heart. I believe we will see great things from this unique group of students because in God's economy nothing is ever wasted.

The Joseph Relief Fund is specifically designed for DC families whose finances have been significantly affected as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. Assistance is for the 2020-21 school year.
