Riverview STEM students headed to state robotics championship
Four teams of elementary school students from Riverview STEM Academy will test their robotics and engineering skills at a statewide competition later this month!

The students - who will be competing against most middle school-aged teams - have been finishing strong in regional Vex Robotics contests in recent months. Their next challenge: state finals at Florin High School on March 15

Folsom High School students impacting cancer research
Five Folsom High School students are raising as much funds as possible for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) through the Students of the Year program. Their seven-week journey, which began on Feb. 13, includes sending emails to family and friends, presenting to corporate companies for partnerships, leading teams of 10+ multigenerational team members and much more.

These students have a combined goal of raising $150,000 for LLS' mission! Folsom High School is one of nine high schools represented in this year's leadership development program. LLS sincerely thanks these students for their dedication to our local blood cancer patients and their families.

Black History Month: Snapshots from more of our schools
During the month of February we highlighted just a few of the ways our schools are expanding understanding of African American voices and experiences during #BlackHistoryMonth

Check out our Facebook page for a few more snapshots from our schools as we close out the month! Recent highlights included:
  • Each day at Cordova Meadows Elementary, a student chosen by Assistant Principal Amber Fontaine read the biography of a famous black figure in history over the school intercom. Students had the chance to learn more about the myriad ways black Americans have shaped politics, culture, and the fabric of our country. In these photos, third-grade student Asma Hashmat shared the biography of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, the court's first black justice.
  • At White Rock Elementary, after lessons on black history, students in Kindergarten teacher Jessica Waugh's class had the chance to select their favorite books they read this month (you can see their smiling faces in the photos here). Also shown is the Black History Month bulletin board created by third and fifth-grade students.
  • At Vista del Lago High School, the Vista Art Club and Black Student Union worked on a series of posters to raise awareness about Black History Month. The posters contained quotes from students about what Black History Month means to them.
  • Theodore Judah Elementary invited Board of Education President Chris Clark to its pre-K classroom to read a story and speak about the importance of Black History Month.
