Teachers,

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with many of you to hear your priorities and learn ways we can improve our support for students on their academic journey. As I shared in my Seven Steps Toward Destination 2025 entry plan, one of my priorities is Alignment of Resources. In this case, I'm referring to formative assessments.

Our goal is to offer an effective tool that teachers can use to determine student comprehension, learning needs and academic progress during any lesson or course. I want to ensure we have a tool that helps teachers identify concepts students are struggling to understand, skills they are having difficulty acquiring or learning standards they have not yet achieved. This will allow us to make adjustments to lessons and/or instructional practices and ultimately support students better.

Before we make any decisions, it's important to me to hear directly from teachers about what’s working with formative assessments currently, as well as what you would like to see and which components we should prioritize.

Please take a few minutes to complete this survey by midnight on Monday, March 18. Please encourage your fellow teachers to complete it too so we can work to obtain a tool that meets all of our instructional needs.

I look forward to collaborating with you more in the future to support our students.

Respectfully,

Dr. Joris M. Ray
Superintendent
