DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS
Spring Adult Hockey Leagues
Spring Adult Hockey will begin the first week of April at the Howelsen Ice Complex. A, B and C Leagues will be offered for both men and women interested in participating. Players will also have the option of full or split positions this season. Registration for Spring Adult Hockey opens on Wednesday, March 13 and the last day to register online will be Monday, March 25.
Howelsen Season Ending Soon
Howelsen Hill Ski Area has officially closed for the 2018/2019 season. Although closed to the public, Howelsen Hill will be hosting several SSWSC events this month. The Nordic Center will remain open and trails will be groomed periodically as conditions permit. Nordic tickets can be purchased at the Fireplace Room vending machine, or at the SSWSC office upstairs in the lodge.
Summer Senior Programs
Parks & Recreation offers a wide variety of exciting summer activities and trips for anyone 55 years and finer. Upcoming trips include a scenic sailing tour in Frisco, historic train ride in Leadville, Colorado Rockies baseball games, and more! Fees include transportation, admission or tickets, and hotel when necessary. Registration for summer trips will open on Monday, April 1.
Engage Steamboat Website
In 2018, the City of Steamboat Springs launched the Engage Steamboat website. Over the past year, this platform has helped inform citizens and spur community conversation on a variety of topics. This engagement site provides a place for the community to track projects, share ideas, and get involved. Check out the site to stay informed and be part of the conversation.
UPCOMING EVENTS
U14 Championships
Howelsen Hill and the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club host the Rocky/Central U14 Junior Championships March 12-17. This event features the fastest alpine ski racers from the 18 state Rocky/Central region ages 11 to 13. Opening Ceremonies take place at Howelsen Hill on Wednesday, March 13, followed by Dual Slalom racing on March 16, and Slalom on March 17.
Luck of the Irish 7K Run/Walk
The Luck of the Irish 7K Run/Walk takes place this Saturday, March 16. The race is hosted by the Steamboat Springs Running Series and will start/finish at the Steamboat Springs Middle School. This race provides scenic views of Buff Pass and Strawberry Park, while also racing through the historic neighborhoods of downtown Steamboat Springs. Don't forget to wear your green!
PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
Steamboat Digs Dogs
Steamboat Digs Dogs is a coalition of local community members that joined together to advocate for dogs and their caregivers in Steamboat Springs. Current Steamboat Digs Dogs projects include improvements to Rita Valentine Park, the establishment of several new off-leash parks and areas, and reducing the carbon paw print in our area through community education and action.
