Members of the College of Nursing attended the USF Health reception on Oct. 3 honoring faculty who achieved promotions and/or tenure.

Alicia Rossiter, DNP, FNP, PPCNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, was promoted to associate professor. Teresa Gore, PhD, DNP, FNP-BC, NP-C, CHSE-A, FAAN, was promoted to professor. Harleah Buck, PhD, RN, FPCN, FAAN, received tenure. And Connie Visovsky, PhD, RN, ACNP, FAAN, was promoted to professor, but could not attend the event.

Four USF College of Nursing students traveled to Tallahassee on Oct. 23 to participate in the annual USF Day at the Capitol event organized by student government.

James Nickson, Konstance Mackie, Alyssa King, and Catherine Hernandez attended the state Health and Human Services panel group discussion.

Congratulations to the 22 USF College of Nursing students who became members of the Sigma nursing honor society and joined their ranks to promote nursing excellence.

The students were inducted during a Oct. 10 ceremony at Plant Hall at the University of Tampa. The group belongs to Sigma's Delta Beta at-Large chapter.

USF College of Nursing professor Theresa Beckie, PhD, MN, RN, FAHA, FAAN, was featured on a panel discussion titled "Be Bold, Take Risks" as part of the 14th annual USF Women in Leadership and Philanthropy Fall Symposium held on Oct. 4 in Tampa.

Dr. Beckie, along with co-panelists Susan Blackburn and Dr. Lyda Lindell, talked about ways to take calculated and ambitious steps toward achieving goals.

The USF College of Nursing Diversity Committee hosted a health care panel on Oct. 30 featuring members of the LGBTQ+ community who shared personal stories and experiences with health care workers and discussed best practices in the health care setting.

Panelists included Kiala Emmons, Abbie Rolf, and Lucas Wehle.

USF College of Nursing professor Ming Ji, PhD, has been appointed to serve on the Faculty Senate Council on Technology for Instruction and Research.

Dr. Ji will serve a three-year term from Fall 2019 to Fall 2022. The committee is responsible for advising the USF Faculty Senate and the provost on all matters regarding the use of technology in instruction and research.

USF Health's Homecoming 2019 was one for the nursing record books.

On Tuesday, we were winning at twinning. On Wednesday, Dean Victoria L. Rich, PhD, RN, FAAN , was ready to outrun the competition at the Wellness Walk. Staff showed their healthy spirit by sporting workout gear.

By the end of the week, a nurse dog won the Most Spirited Pet photo contest.

And our "Back to the Future"-themed Office Decorating submission blasted the competitors and took the top prize. Go Bulls!

Representatives from USF Health and USF College of Nursing traveled to Colombia in early October to meet with health leaders at the Hospital Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia.

Nursing faculty members Barbara Smith, PhD, RN, FACSM, FAAN, and Ivonne Hernandez, PhD, RN, IBCLC, were working to forge new partnerships in the global nursing program.

On Oct. 5, family and friends of the USF College of Nursing spent Field Day at USF Riverfront Park.

The gathering featured games, food, music and a collection drive for the Bahamas hurricane relief. The event was hosted by the college's Doctoral Nursing Student Organization.

USF Bulls bested rival schools in the ultimate test of anesthesia knowledge. Student anesthetists from the College of Nursing placed in the top 2 spots and defended the championship title by winning the 5th annual student college bowl on Oct. 5 at the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthetists' annual meeting.

USF College of Nursing students stopped by the Gathering Space on Oct. 2 for a sweet treat and a photo op featuring Rocky D. Bull and Dean Victoria L. Rich at the Donuts with the Dean event.

A second Donuts with the Dean event has been scheduled for Nov. 18 at USF St. Petersburg.

The USF College of Nursing closed out a month of Hispanic Heritage awareness with a medical Spanish expo on Oct. 16 that offered translation strategies and common Spanish phrases for health care providers to use in clinical practice.

Earlier in the month, passersby enjoyed a cup of c afé con leche while learning about voting rights and mental health trends in the Latinx community at the Oct. 3 Coffee with a Cause event.

When it comes to fighting the flu, USF Bulls beat their rivals and won the Intercollegiate Flu Shot Competition on Oct. 2.

Together, the four U's (USF, UCF, FSU, and UF) vaccinated 3,462 students. According to USF Student Health Services, the final tally of flu shots given at each school was: 1,181 for USF, 838 for UCF, 767 for FSU, and 676 for UF.

The College of Nursing's contractor administrator Kimberly Brown was recently honored with the Above & Beyond Award from the USF Office of Supplier Diversity.

The award was presented on Oct. 4 during the USF Supplier Diversity Day. It is given to a USF employee who has made exceptional contributions to sustain and strengthen the supplier diversity initiatives at USF.

Three USF College of Nursing students have been selected to serve on the 2019-2020 USF Health Executive Student Leadership Board.

Kayla Wilson, Anthony Suda, and Jaelyn Brown are nursing student representatives who will assist at student engagement events, provide campus tours, and serve in a student advisory role for Shared Student Services and USF Health leadership.

Nursing students studying to be family nurse practitioners will have two new scholarships available to help with tuition costs.

The USF College of Nursing was recently awarded $2,000 from the CVS Health Foundation Advance Practice Nurse and Physician Assistant Scholarship program. The money, awarded through the college's internal scholarship process, will fund two $1,000 grants for family nurse practitioner students in 2020.

USF College of Nursing Dean Victoria L. Rich, PhD, RN, FAAN, was featured in the summer 2019 issue of Pitt Nurse, a magazine produced by the University of Pittsburgh's School of Nursing.

The issue explores the different paths in nursing graduate education. Dr. Rich, a Pitt alum, talks about the importance of pursuing a doctoral degree and being a PhD nurse scientist.
