National Poetry Slam Champion Neil Hilborn will bring his talents to the stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 7, in Marty's Café. Tickets are available at
tickets.luther.edu or at the Box Office. Hilborn is best known for his viral poem "OCD," viewed on YouTube more than 14 million times and is to date the most-watched slam poem online. Free with CAF or $10 without. Sponsored by SAC Entertainment. 
 
J-Term in Roatan: Information Session  -- The island of Roatan, Honduras, is home to the world's second largest coral reef and a booming tourist industry. But a long history of colonialism has left the island with an ethnically-divided population, widespread poverty and environmental degradation. This course uses Roatan as a case study in ethical engagement in the developing world, incorporating class time and internships. Come and learn more about the course. Do you like hanging out with kids? Do you have two hours each month to participate in fun activities that we plan for you? Then PALS is for you! Come to a meeting to find out what PALS is about and grab an application to be a part of this exciting program. Meetings are in September 9 at 6:30 or September 13 at 6:30, both in Valders 262!  
 
The Center for Ethics and Public Engagement invites sophomores and juniors interested in applying to the Peace Scholar program to hear 2018 Peace Scholar, Rebecka Green, and Dr. Steinar Bryn of the Nansen Center, discuss their experiences. Join us on Tuesday, September 11 during shadow block in Olin 214. The Peace Scholar program funds two Luther students to spend six weeks at the Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue in Lillehammer, and the University of Oslo Summer School.
 
CEPE Open House TODAY - Join the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement for food, conversation and fall semester planning at the open house 9:40-11 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, in Olin 214. Sign up for a book group and hear about the programming that's planned for the coming academic year. Refreshments will be served.
 
The Mail Center reminds all faculty and staff to include your building and/or your department in the addresses when shipping items to Luther College.   Please contact your vendors to make any changes to your ship to address if possible.   Including that key information will help us with sorting the mail quickly and efficiently.   If you have questions contact the Mail Center staff x1447.

Sunflower Child Development Center has a variety of opportunities available: work study, part-time employment, internships, and volunteering as a teacher aide or leader of fitness, music, art, or sustainability programming. Bring your laptop to our workshop and learn how to download Zotero and set it up to manage your resources (available for PCs and MACs). Odysseus and His Women: Like-Minded Harmony? at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, in the F.W. Olin Building, Room 102. The lecture is sponsored by the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement.

Calling all world travelers! Join the International Studies Department for our Open House Thursday, September 6 from 9:45-10:45 a.m. in the Center for Global Learning, Larsen Hall. Students will share stories from their recent study abroad adventures, and answer questions about Luther's International Studies program--a major and minor that allows students to explore their interests in any corner of the world.

Join Luther's Gospel Choir for rehearsals beginning Sunday, September 9, 5-6 p.m. in Jensen Choir Room. Learn songs of faith, hope, justice and joy. No audition required. Gospel Choir, directed by Dr. Jennaya Robison, will rehearse once a week on Sunday nights until mid November and will sing for campus and community events through the year.
 
Join an Outreach Team (student-led teams that share faith creatively with area congregations and meet weekly on campus) by coming to the front of the CFL at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 7. We'll walk to Will Baker Park and return to campus around 9:30 p.m. You can RSVP via email to [email protected] or just show up. There will be s'mores and capture the flag!
   
Due to policy changes at the Winneshiek County Recycling, Luther College will no longer be collecting plastic film for recycling. The Center for Sustainable Communities thanks you for your participation in this program and hopes the Luther community continues to reduce their plastic film usage
