First & 14th Courts of Appeals Orders Extend Brief Filing Deadline
With some exceptions, the court orders ( 1st | 14th) grant all pending motions to extend time to file a brief until June 30, 2020, and extends the time for filing briefs in pending appeals until June 30, 2020, without the necessity of parties filing motions to extend time to file a brief in these cases. This order shall not apply to (1) original proceedings, (2) appeals in parental termination and child protection cases, (3) appeals from the transfer of a juvenile offender to criminal district court for prosecution, and (4) cases in which a briefing order has issued on or after May 8, 2020.

The Houston Young Lawyers Foundation and the Houston Young Lawyers Association will celebrate this year's Law Day with a virtual webinar featuring Justice Eva Guzman of the Texas Supreme Court, Dr. Annie Benifield and Erin Busby. Friday, May 29, 2020, from 12 noon to 1 p.m.  1 hour of MCLE, including .25 ethics. We will also honor this year's HBA Law Day Contest Winners.
