Coming Together in Love; Reaching Out in Service.
March 10, Sunday: Transformation
Getting Out of Our Own Way
9:15 and 11:15 am

Spring is coming and the butterfly is a classic symbol of transformation. We humans, too, often go through stages to reach our potential. Sometimes, though, we get in our own way. Come hear ideas about opening up to stillness, to nurture, and supporting others. Rev. Alexandra McGee will preach and Bob Gross will co-lead.

[Note: The new Order of Service and Announcements will be posted by the end of the day on Friday each week. Please check back later if you see last week's OOS.]

Our liturgical year is organized around the four seasons and four fundamental issues or questions we humans have danced with for millennia. Within this larger context, each month has its own thematic focus.  In March, our focus is Transformation.

Visit the IMPACT table in the TJMC Social Hall, Sunday, March 10 , after each service for information about affordable housing needs/efforts in Charlottesville City and Albemarle County. Celebrate the Jewish Festival of Purim Sunday, March 24 after both services! The Gill family invites us to celebrate Purim or "The Feast of Lots" with them on Sunday March 24 during social hour after both services. Purim carnivals and celebrations come from the celebration of Esther "unmasking" herself to save the Jews from Haman. The idea is that a minority living in a possibly hostile majority culture may survive and even thrive. People are encouraged to wear costumes during the festival and many communities have a gift exchange. The carnivals tend to have various games for children with silly prizes. We will celebrate at TJMC by wearing costumes to church (wear any kind of costume you like) and playing carnival games. The Gill family will provide hamantaschen, which are the traditional triangular cookies shaped to look like the antagonist, Haman's, hat.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Generous Gift to TJMC Endowment: Elizabeth Breeden says, “Dell Smith was one of our members who I called my mentor. She and her husband, Tony, were always the ones who volunteered both for jobs to help make decisions but also to do the physical work around the church. When we decided the alcove that now has the membership cabinet in it in the church foyer needed painting, Dell and Tony were seen painting it the next Saturday. Dell could always be counted on to review the new budget and hammer the Board with questions. I counted on the fact that she was noticing, supporting, and showing up. The Board has been notified by Dell and Tony’s son that Dell left $20,000 to our Endowment Fund. We are honored by her thoughtful support.”
Social Action Collection Applications: The TJMC-UU church has 12 Social Action Collections each year. We choose to whom we give each collection by asking our members to recommend non-profit organizations that they are involved with, that promote local social justice issues or UUA sanctioned international organizations, to apply to receive one of the monthly appeals. Because there are only 12 collections per year, it is a competitive process. Applications with our process can be found  HERE or on the Social Action bulletin board. They can be submitted electronically to  socialjustice@uucharlottesville.org or leave them in the Social Justice mailbox at church.  Deadline April 30 th .
Does listening to public radio go hand in hand with being a Unitarian Universalist? It does when your donations to public radio fund outreach announcements for UU churches in central Virginia. As we have done for many years, donations made to public radio by TJMC members are pooled with donations from the Roanoke, Lynchburg, and Blacksburg churches to purchase underwriting announcements. You can participate by writing your check to TJMC and putting "public radio" in the memo line. Your contribution is tax deductible and helps get the word out about our community. This year's fund drive is currently underway.  Please respond before March 15. Thanks for supporting both TJMC and WVTF! For more information, contact Maggie Ober at  ober1621@comcast.net
March Artist:  Roban Griffin

" Stepping Through the Veil " ( Cosmic tales written in color)   Roban Griffin-acrylic and ink on wood or canvas

Quantum science promises there are mysterious unseen worlds that cohabit space with our everyday ordinary experience. Energies, with characteristic frequencies, cross paths and purposes with our consciousness to create an infinite array of realities. Colors are visible frequencies that allow us to lift the veil and melt into the phantom ether. I am along for the ride.
