Final Days of the Third Quarter
This week was our last regular five-day school week of the third quarter - calendar. There is no school on Friday, March 15 for students, but it is a regular workday for the teachers as they finalize grades for the quarter. With time growing very short in this nine-week marking period, I encourage all of our Pioneers to complete any missing assignments or projects as soon as possible in order to earn the final grades they are capable of and deserve.

No Early Dismissal Wednesdays
This past Wednesday, March 6 was one of OCPS' non-early dismissal Wednesdays for the spring. There are still four of these Wednesdays remaining so all students will have the opportunity to  complete SAT and/or FSA tests without concern for running out of time:

* Wednesday, April 3
* Wednesday, May 1
* Wednesday, May 8
* Wednesday, May 15

Attention Seniors
This year's graduation ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Amway Center at 8:30AM. Please mark the date.

2019 Parent Survey
There are just a few days left to access the online parent survey (link below). If you completed this year's survey, thank you very much. If you have a student at ORHS and have yet to do so, please take a few moments to complete the survey. The opinions of parents are very important to our school practices so we encourage all parents and guardians to participate. Thank you for your help.
Have a great weekend and please do not forget to turn your clocks ahead 1 hour on Sunday for Daylight Savings Time.

With Pioneer Pride,

Ms. Jennifer Bellinger
Principal

NEMP, sponsored by Mr. Orlando Norwood, Assistant Principal, volunteered during the Special Olympics Florida Statewide Basketball Competition! Our members served as score keepers and handed out participation medals. This was an amazing event and all of our members truly enjoyed themselves.

HIGHLIGHT: L.I.F.E. Orlando
(Pioneers in the Community)
Giftson, Michael & Jarvonte in service at Orlando's half-marathon event on Saturday, March 2

A few of last Saturday's volunteers for the Best D*** Race Half-Marathon - @bestdamnrace. We were at aid station #6 and had to provide water and/or Gatorade to the quick passing runners! It was fun, but definitely a workout in itself! Thanks to Mrs. Gunthre from Oak Ridge High School for getting us involved!

Vital Signs

Making sense of the chart: Each grade level improved their attendance rates during February 2019. While the 9th grade only posted a half-percentage point gain in attendance February over January (+0.5%), our freshmen Pioneers still led the school in attendance during both months. As far as month-over-month improvement, it was the senior class that showed the most progress (+2.5%), but they still lagged the other three grades. These figures include excused and unexcused absences as both represent lost in-class instructional time that cannot be recovered.

Athletics

Lady Pioneers Basketball
Congratulations to Coach Latorrie Williams, the assistant coaches and our Lady Pioneers for defeating Haines City High School 45-44 in a very close game. This win enabled the team to move forward to the Class 9A Final Four State Finals where they faced Miami Senior High. Even though we could not hold off Miami for the win (they defeated us 43-32), we are proud to be Pioneers! Our Lady Pioneers had an amazing season and a very successful year!

Boys Varsity Basketball
Our varsity boys defeated Tampa Alonso 72-58 in the Class A Region 2 Semifinals. We then advanced to the regional championship game for the third straight year against the Osceola Kowboys who managed to come out ahead, 44-39, in the Class A Region 2 Finals. Even though it was a disappointing early exit for us, we enjoyed a season of notable highlights including a trip to Hawaii to participate in the Iolani Classic, where the team was presented with the prestigious Harry Wong Award and enjoyed an ESPN highlight moment. Coach Reese, the assistant coaches and the entire varsity team have a lot to be proud of! Way to go Pioneers!

Digital Video Production with Ms. Jackson

News Channel 6's Ginger Gadsden visited Oak Ridge's digital video production class interacting with the students and demonstrating how to perform as a news anchor. The students were professionally coached and received constructive feedback. Ms. Jenevieve Jackson is the course instructor and her students learned valuable skills during Ms. Gadsden's time on campus. Thank you WKMG News Channel 6!
