SBA Launches the Community Navigator Pilot Program
|
|
Last week, the U.S. Small Business Administration launched the Community Navigator Pilot Program, a $100 million grant program enacted through the American Rescue Plan Act, which will provide counseling, networking, and the assistance needed during this time of economic recovery to the nation’s smallest businesses. The program will target small businesses owned by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals, as well as women and veterans.
SCORE will be applying to the program as a Tier 1 partner. More information will follow on SCORE's involvement at a national level. Chapters should NOT apply for this grant program separately.
The SBA will engage with states, local governments, SBA resource partners, and other organizations in targeted outreach efforts. These partners and people in the community are key to this pilot program as they will serve as a two-way information stream, enabling enterprising business owners to receive the help needed from the SBA.
More information about the program (including a link to the SBA website) can be found at the Support Center.

Gene Wolf (SCORE Monmouth)
|
|
Gene Wolf (SCORE Monmouth), who serves as District Director of New Jersey, was recently selected as one of the 2021 recipients of NJBIZ.com's ICON Honoree's Award. NJBIZ is the publication of NJBIA (New Jersey Business & Industry Association).
This program recognizes New Jersey business leaders over the age of 60 for their notable success and demonstration of strong leadership both within and outside of their chosen field. An independent panel of judges chooses the recipients for the outstanding contributions they have made to the state of New Jersey and the community.
SCORE NJ recently renewed its partnership with NJBIA which has led to a very exciting opportunity. SCORE NJ has secured a spot on the Channel 12 Plus TV station for Gene Wolf to be interviewed by NJBIA hosts, where he will be promoting SCORE NJ and all the wonderful things they are doing for their clients. He, with one or two of the chapter chairs, will also be part of an NJBIA Podcast to be scheduled soon.
Please join us as we congratulate Gene Wolf for all that he does for SCORE and his excellent leadership in running the NJ chapters.

One SCORE - Delaware and Washington DC
|
|
Check out the following example of the One SCORE philosophy at work in the field (submitted by Walt Abbott, Outreach Chair of SCORE Washington DC):
"I received a request from one of the SCORE DC partners, Judy Stephenson, Montgomery County, Small Business Navigator, Office of the County Executive, asking if SCORE had any volunteers who speak Russian or Georgian. Judy has an immigrant client who wants to start a new automobile repair business in Montgomery County but his English is weak.
I jumped on the Association website, opened the listing of all SCORE volunteers, and entered Russian or Georgian as a requirement. I immediately got 9 volunteers, and I contacted Rodion Kolesnikov, Delaware Chapter, who is interested in mentoring Mr. Bakhutashvili.
I asked Judy to have him register to find a mentor and specifically ask for Rod. I am now awaiting Judy's confirmation that Mr. Bakhutashvili has registered with SCORE so Rod can begin mentoring him.
This is a perfect example of our One SCORE philosophy and our commitment to our partners."

Top Resources on SCORE.org
|
|
The Top Resources on SCORE.org document lists the top 25 workshops, resources, and keywords on the national website. This document is updated monthly, and we suggest bookmarking it for future reference.
Knowing what the most frequently viewed workshops and resources are on the national site can help you better understand what topics and content business owners are looking for. Your chapter can then take this data and use it to create localized resources around those topics to increase your chapter's website traffic and workshop attendance.
