Join Hep B United Philadelphia and the Hepatitis B Foundation for two upcoming hepatitis B screening events!
On
Sunday, March 24th from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
, we will be
at the Victory Harvest Fellowship Church
in West Philadelphia. This event is in partnership with the African Family Health Organization (AFAHO).
On
Saturday, April 6th
, we will be conducting a screening at the Montgomery County Health Fair! The event will take place from
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM in the Science Building of Montgomery County Community College

Funding Opportunity from the
Office of Minority Health
|
|
The Office of Minority Health has posted their federal grant opportunity for the
Hepatitis B Demonstration Grant Program
. OMH will fund collaborative partnerships to build capacity for scale-up HBV vaccination, testing and linkage to care services and surveillance to advance progress toward national hepatitis B elimination goals recommended by the National Academies of Sciences (NAS). Service delivery efforts will focus on delivery of prompt, responsive and efficient care for persons born in countries where HBV infection is endemic; U.S.-born persons not vaccinated as infants whose parents were born in countries with a very high prevalence of HBV infection; household contacts or sexual partners of persons with HBV infection; and infants/children/adolescents who may otherwise slip through the cracks and improve reach of services essential to eliminating hepatitis B.
Applications are due Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 5:00 PM EST.

Hep B United Webinar Series Launches March 20th

Join the Hepatitis B Foundation, Hep B United and the
National Association of County and City Health Officials
(NACCHO) on
Wednesday, March 20th, 2019 from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
EST for the first installment of a new webinar series! This session will focus on the current state of hepatitis B in the United States. Join to learn about hepatitis B epidemics across the nation, communities at high risk for infection, routes of transmission, test results, case reporting, vaccines, and more local health department prevention initiatives.
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
• Discuss the epidemiology of HBV and at-risk, priority populations
• Describe HBV testing, treatment, and prevention measures
• Characterize the role of local health departments in preventing and
eliminating HBV infections

Join us at the 5th Annual Jefferson Liver Disease Symposium on
Saturday, March 30th, 2019
from
8:00 AM - 2:50 PM!
The conference will take place on the
Jefferson University Campus in the Bluemle Life Sciences Building.
Sessions during the conference will be organized into the following categories: hepatitis disorders, miscellaneous liver disorders, infections in hospitalized cirrhotics, and liver transplant-related topics.
Physicians, physician assistants, and nurses can receive continued medical education (CME) credits for attending. Read more about CME credits

During 2019, we are highlighting a unique patient story each month. Our
#justB
Storytelling Campaign is a national effort to bring individuals affected by hepatitis B to share their stories to shed light on this serious disease, decrease stigma, discrimination, and promote the importance of testing and treatment for hepatitis B. If you want to host a screening of the videos, we can help! It is a great way to spread the word and engage your local communities! Email

After her own family’s experience of immigrating to the United States from Mongolia and their relief at moving to a community where friends could point them to resources, Tuya saw the struggles of other newcomers and decided she wanted to help. She found work with a program that does hepatitis B and C outreach, testing, and treatment referral for immigrants in the greater Washington, D.C. area and has been gratified to see the community’s growing trust in her, her organization, and the medical system in the U.S.
