Summer Student Employment
Hey students - it's time to start thinking about your summer job! The Town of Paradise is now accepting applications for the Summer Student Positions.The Town offers a wide range of instructional programs and activities for children, youth, and adults during the summer months. If you are a motivated, enthusiastic, energetic individual who would like the challenge of working in a recreation environment, apply for one of our Summer Student Positions. Nominations Open for Municipal Awards
Do you know someone who goes above and beyond with volunteerism in our community? How about athletes and teams who are excelling in the sports or how about their coach? Maybe you know a youth resident who is an example to us all. Want to tell us about a great citizen in the Town of Paradise? Or maybe there's a local business which deserves recognition? Now is the time to get in those nominations for the  2019 Municipal Awards.  

The Municipal Awards provide an opportunity to formally recognize the accomplishments and talents of those who help make Paradise the great community it is. If you know of an individual, team, group, or business that excels in any of the award categories, nominate them for a 2019 Town of Paradise Municipal Award.

Nominations must be received by Friday, March 22. Full details and nomination forms are available on our website. The 2019 Awards will be presented at an awards ceremony during Volunteer Appreciation Week.
Ban the Bag
On March 11, 2019, Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador (MNL) will partner with the Plastic Bag Ban of Newfoundland and Labrador group to stage a #BanTheBag Social Media Day of Action to call on the provincial government to develop a province-wide ban on single-use plastic bags. According to MNL, each year eight million tonnes of plastic is finding its way into the oceans, In NL almost 50% of all windborne litter escaping from landfills is plastic, much of it single-use plastic bags. .

The Town of Paradise supports the Day of Action. Share your views on social media, using #BantheBag to call on the provincial government to develop a province-wide ban on single-use plastic bags. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is doing public consultations to learn more about how a potential ban of single use plastic bags could impact residents, businesses, and organizations. Visit  www.engagenl.ca to fill out the online questionnaire or read the discussion document and provide a written submission on the impacts of a potential ban of these bags. The deadline to participate is March 27.
Election Officials
The Town is seeking Election Officials for the upcoming by-election. The by-election is set for Thursday, May 9, with advance poll day schedule for Saturday, May 4. If you are interested in working as a Deputy Returning Office or Poll Clerk, please email your written application; including your name, phone number; address; position applied for and previous related work experience.
St. Patrick's Day Dinner & Musical Variety Show
Celebrate St. Paddy's Day with us and the Lions Club at our Dinner and Musical Variety Show event on March 15. A dinner of Irish Stew will be served at 6:00 p.m. and there will be a cash bar open during the event. Edison Unplugged will host, with the stage open to guests throughout the evening.

Daylight Savings Time
This weekend we "spring ahead" with Daylight Savings. Don't forget to set your clocks forward by one hour at 2 a.m., Sunday, March 10. Daylight savings is also a great time to check and change batteries in household smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Annual Donation Program Reminder
Are you in a community group or organization in the Town? If so, let them know they might be eligible for a donation from the Town. 

Community groups and organizations can apply for a one-time donation to support their activities and programs. Groups are reminder that applications must be received by the end of March. Full program details and forms are available on the website .
Did you know that no vehicle is permitted to be parked on Town streets any time during a snowfall or for 24 hours thereafter. The parking ban is also in place between the hours of 1:00 and 8:00 am. For more information on the Winter Parking Ban, please visit the web site .
