Wildrock Plastic Campaign Project

Since early November, our 5th graders have been working to research and understand how they can make a difference reducing plastics on our Earth. Through an EcoLiving Grant funded initiative and Wildrock, 5 local schools are tasked with creating public service announcements to get the message out to refuse, reduce or recycle plastics. During this project our 5th graders are learning the "who, why and how" steps of an effective public service announcement. Who are we targeting? Why should they care? What action can they take? Through this process we have explored the history of plastic and the problems associated with it. We have also met with a graphic designer to understand the process of designing an effective visual. In February (date TBD), during a one hour community meeting, each local school will share their PSA with local business members in the community at City Space. The business members will then have the opportunity to print and display these student created posters on plastic awareness to promote plastic reduction in their businesses and around Charlottesville. Peabody 5th graders hope to take it a step further by inviting City Council to make a pledge to reduce plastic use in our City. Mrs. Rogan Appearing at the Discovery Museum

 Did you know that Mrs. Rogan wrote and illustrated a children's book? She is doing a book reading of her children’s book "Lulu" in conjunction with her art show at the Virginia Discovery Museum in Charlottesville. The book reading is Saturday, December 22nd from 10:30-noon and she will have a little art activity that goes along with the book (of course). She will have books and mural stickers available. People can get a peak of the book at her website at www.elizarogan.com. The show will be up through January in the craft room.  

Costumes Needed!!

We are starting to prepare for our upcoming production of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Jr." and the Middle School performance of "Into The Woods", and are looking for a lot of costumes and props. For "Into The Woods," we particularly need a rocking chair, ball gowns, ornate jackets for the two princes, a black hooded cloak and two peasant style dresses, waistcoats and flat caps. Please let Mrs. Saunders know if the items are donated or on loan. A list will be sent out for Willy Wonka once the design team have had their first meeting.

We are always delighted to accept donations of items that can be used in drama classes and performances such as Halloween costumes; hats; bags; masks; dress-up clothes or props.

Panther Corps Penny Wars - Coming January 2019!

7th Grade students are proud to announce their first fundraising effort, Panther Corps Penny Wars, which will take place in January 2019.

During morning arrival each day in January, 7th graders will be hosting Penny Wars in the main entrance to raise funds for their Panther Corps partner organizations: Hoothon at UVA, the Wildlife Center, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program (AHIP).

Bring your spare change any morning in January to play Plinko and see which organization your funds will support!

Congratulations to Addie Brudin and CeCe Walker who performed with the Albemarle Ballet at two sold out performances at the Wayne Theater on December 8th!

This Week in Athletics

Our winter season is underway as our swim team competed last Friday at the St. Anne's-Belfield Invitational. Peabody placed several swimmers during the meet. On the girls' side, Grace McCardle won the 100 and 200 Freestyle, Jaya Vaidhyanathan placed second in the 50 Freestyle and 50 Backstroke, and the Peabody 200 Freestyle relay team (Grace, Jaya, Reese McCardle, and Maddie Blank) won their event! On the boys' side, William Keenan won the 50 and 100 Freestyle events and Max Goff placed third in 50 Backstroke. (Full Results) Congratulations to all of our swimmers!! The swim team is back in action tonight in Richmond at St. Catherine's School.

Our boys and girls basketball teams have been hard at work getting ready for the season. The boys and girls have a doubleheader this upcoming Wednesday against the Waldorf School, starting at 4:00 here at the Batten Gymnasium. Come out and support our Panthers!
