Hope Village Relocation Community Meeting

Gardner Community Center

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the  possible relocation of Hope Village, a tent
village for homeless residents in San José.  The proposed site is Santa Clara Valley
Water District property near Lelong Street  and Willow Street.  Space is limited so please RSVP to be  guaranteed participation in the meeting.  Walk-in seating is subject to availability.

The Alameda and Rose Garden Neighborhood Night

Join The Alameda and Rose Garden communities at the Quakes "The Alameda and Rose Garden Neighborhood Night" to enjoy special experiences exclusive this community. Purchasers through this link will receive a rose themed Quakes Quakes Pennant with each ticket purchased. You will also join other The Alameda and Rose Garden community members on the field during the National Anthem (ages 10+) and kids will get to high five the Quakes players as they exit the field for warm-ups as part of the High Five Tunnel (ages 5-9)!

State of the City Coyote Creek Creek Clean-Up

Saturday, March 16, at 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Mayor Sam Liccardo invites you to join him and Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful for a creek cleanup along Coyote Creek. Join the Mayor, myself, and my team to help keep our community clean! 

At this event, the Mayor will speak briefly about the importance of keeping our City clean and then join the volunteers in the litter cleanup. Tools will be provided.

Heavy rain cancels this event. We will host it with light rain.  Come out, enjoy the freshness of spring, and have fun beautifying the creek one piece of trash at a time.

Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve
Wednesday,  April 3 rd, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Parking at 300 Metcalf Road, San Jose

The Open Space Authority work to conserve the natural environment, support agriculture, and connect people to nature through exciting outdoor programs, like this one! 

Meet in the Metcalf Motorcycle Park parking area at 300 Metcalf Road in San Jose. A staff member will be there to show you where to park and introduce you to me and the Open Space docents who will help you identify and learn about the plants and animals you're seeing.  

We will walk approximately 1 mile on a dirt trail from the parking lot to a scenic and beautiful location within this special-access area. Please wear closed-toe shoes and a hat that ties down, bring water, a light snack or lunch, and don't forget your sunscreen! Feel free to bring a walking stick. This educational experience led by our enthusiastic docents and staff is about 2  miles round-trip and climbs in elevation of about 200 feet.

Patricia Gardner Commendation 

On February 12th during Council, we recognized Patricia Gardner and her accomplishments as a leader and advocate of nonprofits for the past two decades.

Patricia has served as the CEO of Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits since 2001. She has been critical to building SCVN's community impact and growth, and we are thankful for her leadership.





Grateful Gardens 

Recently I toured the lovely Grateful Gardens at 900 Meridian Avenue with Executive Director, Karen Marshall. Karen and her fellow volunteers have created a space to promote peace through sustainable systems. It's a half acre urban farm with boxes for gardening, chickens, and bees for the community. They currently have space for 40 community boxes for rent or for sponsoring. Check out their website for more information here.





Great American Litter Pick Up

Saturday, April 13th,  8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. 

Help us clean up litter in San Jose. To participate and sign up please call 408-535-4906. On the day of the event, register at your meeting location and receive litter cleanup supplies. At noon, join your Council District Office for a celebration lunch at your Council District's Event Kickoff Location. Lunch is free for volunteers.

2019 Safe Summer Initiative Grant
 
The City of San José Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Safe Summer Initiative Grant (SSIG) is now accepting applications for its next annual funding cycle, which runs from June 1, 2019 through August 31st, 2019. Services must be provided to youth residents of San José, ages 6-24, who are part of the Mayor's Gang Prevention Task Force Target Population. Applicants must be a nonprofit with a 501(c)(3) status, a government agency, or a legally-recognized faith-based organization.

Interested agencies are invited a workshop to review critical information about the grant program and how to apply on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 from 3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. at Hank Lopez Community Center, located at 1694 Adrian Way, San José, CA,
95122. Applicants are strongly encouraged, but are not required, to attend this workshop.

To register and access the application, please go to http://grants.sanjoseca.gov/index.jsp. Completed proposals can only be submitted on-line via WebGrants. Proposals must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 7th, 2019. 



PAL Programming and Stadium

The City of San José's Police Department and Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services invite you to provide input on ways to enhance youth sports opportunities through the Police Activities League (PAL) and plan for the future of PAL Stadium. Safe Overnight Parking Program 

Franklin-McKinley School District has partnered with Amigos de Guadalupe to provide families and/or individuals who have been displaced and are temporarily homeless, living in their vehicles, and need a safe place to park overnight. Restrooms are made available to participants. 



U.S. Census Bureau

The U.S. Census Bureau is hiring - Working as a census worker can be a great way to make extra money while helping your community. The Census Bureau is recruiting thousands of people across the country to assist with the 2020 Census Count. In Santa Clara County alone, the Bureau is looking to hire over 1000 census workers for a variety of temporary jobs, including census takers (also referred to as enumerators), recruiting assistants, office staff, and supervisors. Positions offer excellent pay ($24-$33 hourly rate), flexible hours, and paid training. Find more information here

Mineta San Jose International Airport 

Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) reached a new passenger record in 2018 by serving 14.3 million departing and arriving passengers, a 14.7 percent increase and a new record of 1.8 million more customers choosing SJC for their travel plans over 2017. SJC also marked six consecutive years of solid passenger growth.

"Snap, Click, Report"

Illegal fireworks are a neighborhood nuisance AND highly dangerous - so don't put up with them! Snap a photo and file a report online at sanjoseca.gov/fireworks . Fines can be as high as $1,000.

The fines for using fireworks are:
  • $500 for a first violation
  • $700 for a second violation (within 18 month period from date of previous violation)
  • $1,000 for a third violation (within 18 month period from date of previous violation)
  • The sale of fireworks may result in a fine up to $50,000 plus jail time, depending on quantity

First Annual San Jose Shamrock Run

Summer 2019 Camp Registration 

Registration for Happy Hollow summer camps began Saturday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m.  Each uniquely themed camp provides interactive learning experiences, hands-on science-based activities, zoo tours, and the opportunity to have up close live animal encounters. 

NEW in 2019! Puppetry and theater camps: Children ages 6 to 10 can discover the art of puppetry and acting at the Happy Hollow Puppet Castle Theater. Children will experience the magical art of storytelling inside one the oldest puppet theaters in California.
