Free Open Gym at Fleetwood-Jourdain in March!

Join your Kingsley friends for some family fun at Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center on Saturday, March 14th from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM. There will be gym games, crafts, snacks for the kids, and coffee for parents. This event is FREE and siblings are welcome!

March Madness Toy Drive

The Student Service Council is organizing a March Madness Toy Drive. We will be collecting toys for children at the NorthShore Evanston Hospital. For the sake of allergies, please make sure all donations are latex free, unwrapped, brand new, and unopened. Also, stored in a pet free and smoke free environment. 

Toys can be dropped off before and after school in the Kingsley lobby. Look for boxes labeled 'Toy Drive'. For larger and more expensive items, please drop them off in the office. The NorthShore Child Life wish list is attached here.
Student Voices Needed for Green Team Efforts

Looking for some outspoken students! The D65 Green Team is planning to attend the School Board Meeting on Monday, March 23rd at 7:00 PM at JEH and are hoping to find some brave students to make the case for district wide environmental education and action. 

We're looking for 1-2 representatives from each school to share their experiences with sustainability experiences (in school lessons, composting, etc.). We'd love to hear why they think these are vital for ALL students. Please contact Lynne Hayes at lynnerhayes@yahoo.com if your student is interested.
Parent Volunteers Needed


Books & Breakfast is looking for Kingsley parents to be weekly volunteer tutors! Our mission is to help students start their day prepared for learning - physically, emotionally and academically!  Our goal is to give as much individualized attention to students as possible.We are in need of 2 tutors on both Monday and Wednesday mornings. We will meet each morning from 8:00 - 8:50 AM in the Multi-Use Room.

Collecting Yearbook Pictures 

The yearbook committee needs your photos! Please submit photos of your Comet and their classmates and Kingsley friends (please no siblings, unless they attend Kingsley) around the school, performing in the talent show, singing or playing in a school concert, showing off their science fair projects, etc. You get the drift!

Chess Tournaments

Evanston Scholastic Chess Tournament
The final Evanston Scholastic Chess Tournament of the year is at Chute Middle School on March 7th from 9:00 AM until approximately 3:00 PMAll Comets who know how to correctly move all the chess pieces, can play an entire game, can checkmate an opponent, and can display good sportsmanship are welcome to participate. Please email Jen Peltz at cometchess@gmail.com by 9:00 AM on March 4th if your child would like to participate in the tournament. Please include your Comet's first and last name and grade. The cost for participating is $4. Financial assistance is available.  

Chess Wizards Tournament
Chess Wizards is organizing a tournament on March 21st from 8:15 AM - 2:15 PM at Niles West Academy. All kids are welcome to register - no need to be Chess Wizards students. Kids will be divided based on the chess knowledge level and age. Click here for more details.

Join Chess Wizards this Spring for fun, friendships and some serious chess skills. All experience levels welcome! If you're brand-new to chess, we'll teach you the basics and get you playing in no time. Service Project Opportunity

Please join Kingsley families as we package meals that will be shipped to different countries around the world. No previous experience is needed. A short instructional session will take place promptly at 2:00 PM. Immediately after the project is complete, we will end our time together with a quick discussion. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to participate in a service project together. All students will need to be accompanied by an adult/guardian.

Traffic Around Kingsley & Haven

The City is also planning a major improvement project to Green Bay Road and is seeking public comments. You can share your concerns and feedback here (scroll down to find the comments submission).

10 Second Film Festival
The 10 second Film Festival is back and ready to celebrate Earth Week's 50th Anniversary on Friday, April 24 at 6:30 PM at the Washington Elementary Auditorium (914 Ashland Ave.). 10 Second Film Festival Students are invited to submit 10-15 second videos on any topic related to sustainability and then come watch them on the big screen with their families. This event is co-hosted by the Evanston Environmental Association and the City of Evanston and features an incredible lineup of environmental films to enjoy with the family. Join us on Friday March 13th from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at One Rotary Building.

This family friendly event, taking place Sunday, March 22nd 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM at the Main Branch of the Evanston Public Library, aims to teach about food waste and its relationship to global warming. The engaging and informative documentary tells the story of a couple who challenges themselves to eat only discarded food in order to learn more about the problem of waste in the United States.  Click here for more information.

Best for upper elementary and older students and their families. The screening is organized by D65 Green Teams and will be followed by a 30 minute discussion with the participation of Seven Generations Ahead Zero Waste Consultant Becky Brodsky.
Right At School Elective Classes

Electives classes are additional enrichment classes led by companies that Right At School (RAS) partners with. The classes are typically one hour once per week, with a new schedule offered three times per school year. These classes are open to any students in the school, including anyone enrolled in Right Club, for an additional cost.

Evanston Youth Lacrosse - for Girls

Ready to play Spring Lacrosse? Registration for Evanston Youth Lacrosse (EYLA) 2020 Spring Season is now open to 1st-8th grade girls. 

Season dates: March 23 - May 30
Registration deadline: March 6th
Full scholarships available

EVERY player 5th-8th grade is REQUIRED to attend a try-out on Friday, March 6 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM at the Quad.

Register for Girls Play Sports   

Registration is currently open for the following programs. All of our programs are led by the ETHS female athletes.
  1. Team GPS (March is Cheerleading, Gymnastics and Poms) for 5th-8th grade girls: meets at ETHS from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
  2. GPS Bowling Tournament (March 7th) for 4th-8th grade girls: meets at Classic Bowl in Morton Grove from 9:00 AM - Noon. 
  3. GPS Badminton Tournament (March 28th) for 5th-8th grade girls: from 9:00 AM-Noon @ ETHS. 
Financial aid is available. Select 'YES' for a 100% scholarship on the registration form.
