Mindfulness Meets Hygge: Danish Secrets to Joyful Living

The Danes are known to be some of the happiest people in the world. Meik Wiking, CEO of the Happiness Research Institute, argues that this could be due in part to an aspect of the Danish lifestyle. Hygge (pronounced Hoo-ga) is loosely translated as cozy and connected, with a sense of well-being and contentment. In this session, participants will learn more about the concept of Hygge and how to bring more of this feeling into our lives. Wiking's work will be reviewed and participants will have a chance to experience the intersection of Hygge and mindfulness through activities and group conversation. A unique BE APOTHECARY hygge gift, created by the facillitators and community mindfulness leaders, Brianna Heusterberg and Elizabeth DenDekker, will help to enhance your sense of happiness.

Elizabeth DenDekker, MSW, LCSW is a licensed psychotherapist and assistant professor. She is a graduate of the UWM Helen Bader School of Social Welfare and she currently teaches for Silver Lake College and UW-Green Bay. Brianna has her BA in psychology and is a certified mindfulness instructor and the PATH Coordinator at Mental Health America in Sheboygan County.

Spirituality & Happiness

Rev. Kristal Klemme, the pastor and a teacher at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Plymouth, and graduate of Lakeland University and Chicago Theological Seminary, will lead you through this unique session. Participants will look at the many ways we engage our faith and spiritual journeys and how that engagement can lead us onto a path of greater mental wellness - or, not. Together, we will explore ways to integrate our spirituality and mindfulness practice into our daily living in ways that bring us closer to joy, happiness, and overall mental, spiritual, and physical wellness.
