MEETBOARD
MEET THE BOARD

Sheela Porter-Smith, CNM, CRNP, CCH
CHC Board Member

Please join us in celebrating the people who work behind the scenes to move the CHC and the homeopathy profession forward each day! We extend heartfelt thanks to each board member.  This month we asked Sheela to share her story:

1. Sheela, please tell us about yourself. What led you to becoming a homeopath?

I began my journey in homeopathy when I was 22 years old when I went to study at a yoga ashram. I was treated by my spiritual teacher. The process of unfolding that happened in my health and life inspired me to become a homeopath. He encouraged me to go to Nursing and Midwifery school so I have integrated homeopathy whenever the client is ready to hear about it.

2.  What is your vision about the future of Homeopathy as a profession?

In the United States, my vision would be to have more allopathic health professionals become open to the practice of homeopathy and to have homeopathy integrated into medical schools like it is in Europe and thus integrated into the health care system.  Educating the allopathic community may take time; they have been trained to believe in evidence based medicine which involves clinical trials. Most allopathic practitioners are not aware that there have been over 1,000 homeopathic clinical studies done.  Educating the allopathic practitioners is very important.

3.
What message do you wish to extend to the CHC certificants, candidates, and exam applicants?

I am dedicated to the CHC because it is the certifying body for professional Homeopaths. I believe that through standardization of certification the profession will become united. A united profession is a strong profession.

ExamChanges

CHC EXAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT CHANGES
Effective January 1, 2020

Beginning January 1, 2020, CHC Certification Exam applicants must have completed all 500 hours of the required homeopathy clinical training prior to applying for the exam.

The total number of required clinical training hours has NOT changed. Current exam eligibility policy requires applicants to complete at least half (250) of the homeopathy clinical training hours prior to applying for the exam. Then, they must complete the remaining 250 hours within two years of passing the exam.

The new policy, effective January 1, 2020, upholds NCCA best practices for certifying organizations, and it shortens the certifcation process time for applicants who pass the exam. All other exam eligibility requirements will remain the same as detailed in the CHC Certification Handbook.
