A Note from our Executive Director

Dear friend,

I always think about leadership, but during the past seven months, it has become even more apparent to me how important leadership is and how important representation is. In the last few weeks, many of my friends of color spoke about how meaningful it is to them to see someone who shares their story in our nation’s top leadership.

For the first time - so many of us see ourselves in the President and Vice President (elect.) Women are trembling to see a woman VP. Indian and Asian Americans are represented. Black women and men are represented. Jews are excited to see a Jewish second husband. Catholics are represented. Children of immigrants are represented. We ALL have great role models now.

At IVYP we are continuing our work on advancing racial justice and representation, not only among our staff but in our leadership as well. Our board has taken this head on and has dedicated time at each monthly meeting to discuss identity, diversity, and equity.

I look forward to continuing our work together.

Providing Meals to our Families

Through a partnership with UCSB IVYP is distributing 65 family meals daily at our Children's Center Phelps location. Families are able to pick up a ready-made meal that serves a family of four. Providing these meals is helping our families to feel less stressed about providing a hot and healthy dinner every night. Every day the gratitude we receive is incredible. Some parents have tears in their eyes has they drive up to receive their meal and as you can tell from the child in our picture, the food is a huge hit with the kids as well!

If you or someone you know is in need of a hot meal please contact our Children's Center at 805-968-0488
Support IVYP through AmazonSmile

We are nearing the holiday season and 2020 promises to be the biggest year for online gift purchases ever. When you shop on Amazon please you this link and a portion of each purchase will directly support our work.

GLEN World

From November 2019 to March 2020 IVYP partnered with GLEN World on a pilot of their GLEN Learn app to scale English literacy so that every child has access to the educational and economic opportunities it unlocks.  Each child spent 15 minutes a day working on the app. In addition to teaching vocabulary through a sequence of 40 lessons, GLEN Learn also provides stories and poems for kids to enjoy and learn from.
IVYP teachers monitored the progress and provided input to the designers on the content. Thank you to GLEN World for this wonderful opportunity.

Harvest of the Month

Each month we share a healthy, easy and affordable recipe to try that highlights ingredients you can get at our monthly food distribution on the first Thursday of every month. This month we are highlighting green beans! Did you know that green beans contain no cholesterol? Or that green beans are naturally low in sodium? This means green beans are not only delicious but they are a heart healthy food! We love this green bean recipe, because it's easy and flavorful.
