March Dinner
Special Guest Speakers

George Marrett & a host of
Early Members of the Estrella Squadron

Wednesday, Mar 4, 2020
No Host Bar starts at 5:30 p.m.
Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m.

Three-year old Estrella Squadron of the Confederate Air Force put on their first air show on May 23, 1993. The fifty odd members recruited aircraft such as the World War II BT-13, T-6, P-51 and a British Spitfire to thrill a big crowd at the Paso Robles airport. The US Air Force assisted the show with a flyby of the huge Lockheed C-5A Galaxy and, not to be outdone, the US Marines launched a pair of McDonnell AV-8 Harriers. The US Navy provided a Lockheed P-3 Orion on display and actually "backed up" the plane using reverse thrust. During the airshow Obbie Atkinson interviewed squadron volunteers and they explained their job.

All this flying and activity was captured on video by squadron members Obbie Atkinson and Ralph Grasso. Ralph's wife and Obbie wrote a script and George Marrett was the narrator for a 25-minute video of the historic event.

Now 27 years later, some of the early members will describe our humble beginnings by first playing the video and then discussing their hopes and dreams for the museum in the future. Don't miss this classic meeting! We've included a picture of the new paint on Thomson Hall in case you don't recognize it when you drive up!

Restoration Shop

Our recently acquired 2008 AM General, M1123 Humvee, shown above left, is in its latter stages of restoration and clean-up prior to being put on display. Upper right is our North American Bronco, OV-10A, which has been undergoing a major restoration. This Bronco spent time with the US Air Force and in latter flying years, spent time as a spotter, fighting fires in Northern California before being retired from flight duty and finding a permanent home with Estrella Warbirds Museum.

There are many new projects in the works and if you enjoy helping to preserve history for tomorrow's generation, we would love to have you join us in the restoration hangar!
